Ok so I was looking at Ti pens and Im curious to know ... Is this just a sharpened piece of titanium cuz thats what it looks like to me... has any one tried making one on their own? what was your experience like making them. IT really does look like just a sharpened rod of titanium. If so How do you sharpen Titanium thanks

Its a good page to lurk anyhow . (Lots of stuff posted )

The ti pens are from last week ,so its a few posts down . I have no idea how well they work .

Chemical sharpener.

any clue as to what type of chemical sharpener ... I know there is some for tungsten is it the same ... Titanium is really soft seems like you might be able to sharpen it on a grinder ....
Thank for the quick replies

you really don't want a sharp point anyway. i like mine rounded, about like a ball point pen. a very sharp point doesn't move over the glass smoothly, even with water.

Its kinda what I had in mind ... but I was thinken why not just get a rod and sharpen it ... I draw with stringer so I cant see how it could be much different

I disagree. I often want a pretty sharp edge on mine, I use a grinder or some sandpaper works for fine tuning.

different strokes for different folks and all that!

i just found my initials were more "scribbly" with a sharper edge. quality of the TI might make a difference though, and i have a cheap pen.

Ok this is what I found

http://www.onlinemetals.com/merchant.cfm?pid=4777&step=4&showunits=inches&id=185&top_cat=1353

Im just sayen if you can sharpen it your self why in the world would you pay 20.00 for like an inch of it shoved into plastic

ouch this source kinda sucks ... they want 15.00 to ship one piece Im going to keep looking

THIS IS A BETTER OPTION you have to order 10.00 worth but the shipping is only 7 dollars so for the price of one pen you get enough titanium to make like 14 or so 6 in rods ..

I just use my Ti nail. Has many different edges and shapes, and is always around.

I like mine sharp as well. I sign as tiny as possible. Sharpen mine with 80grit sandpaper

I think everyone is different on tip preference. I've had people scour the booth for one that is more round, and vice versa. Seems to be just a preference thing. I've found it works either way. Most important ingredient, is a steady hand.

looks like Im going to be maken some ti pens. I really enjoy making things myself.
Thanks to all that have replied ....

IF any one has any advice on cutting them or sharpening them please post... Ive never done it before but from reading it cant possibly be to hard. Im thinking cut with hacksaw in vice... sharpen with grinder and smooth with sandpaper

+1 Spit works better than water.

I had not seen the old thread there twist .... Good looken dog I might add

there are some for sale on etsy of different qualities ... don't know why today I was about to order one... been maken marbles a lot and keep getting people like .. you should really sign your marbles ... In the past I used a dremmel but IF you fuck up it ruins the marble and pissed me off so much I just stopped signing them ... There have been a few serious collectors that have actually told me they would buy the piece if it was signed ... any way I was going to pay 20.00 plus shipping and then I found an add that listed the grade of titanium used to make umm.. after that I looked it up

Thanks to all who have posted replies .... I will up date the thread when I get the metal ... 7-10 business days
Thanks again
