where does one get clear for crucible furnaces

ga says they have there own clear i cant melt and they wont sell it to me. they are not batching clear tho. so.....

years ago abe said he would sell me clear and that they just smash up tubes and the oily coating is particular for them so it doesnt mess up the batch.
i dont know what brand theyre using. or if this is still status quo.

everyone keeps referring me to scraps and odds.
i want a consistent supply of quality clear at significantly reduced price per lb vs finished tube.

Simax is made by Kavalier in the chez republic. You can find them online.

How much cullet do you need?

Maybe call Kimble also, they have a lot of cullet.

Broken tubing, odd tubing = cullet.

friedrick & dimmock is one of the bigger importers of simax, once upon a time they supplied ABR. you could ask them for anything that gets damaged in shipping.

that was already pointed out in this thread. OP wants more than they have, and regularly.

........If f n d did not work out , It could have been who you got on the phone . I have called and had some one know nothing , not even tube size in mm . Other times I have called , and got given options I did not even know about , " you don't sound sure , let me see, I have a case cut in half If you want that ?" or " It says it will show up friday , let me see if I can make it to the dock and get it to you by thursday" .

I guess it could be any company like that , but I have seen it from f n d first hand.

i didnt ask specifically for their cullet when i called. i asked for scrap. they have a kimble simax mix and i got quoted 3.00lb
surprised they didnt mention cullet" product, much cheaper price. i did not see the cullet offered on there site previously to that link.

ill double check to see whats really going on at abr.

thx for all the manufacturer mentions. i would think kimble (gershemer)sp would be best bet since its the only boro made here. i dont think i can order enough from over seas to make it happen.

Are there any scientific shops near you? We throw away bins of the stuff. I'm sure they'd be happy to give it to you or at a very low price if you can find one.

ive had abr mess up my order once in seven years, it was recently, and they resolved it unquestioningly.

i assume there was a communication miss just as there has been earlier in this thread.

but yeah, f n d seems to be run by a secretary, dunno if she should know more or they shouldnt be abusing their secretary.

anywho, i assume crucible workers have it all figured out and just arent giving it up.

cause this should be way easier to give somebody my money for production cullet by now.

but maybe not. i am unaware of anyone making tons (literally) of glass anything out of a crucible. besides the tube and rod makers

anyone please show me different

Northstar is made with simax or schott depending on color chemistry. simax for oxidized colors and schott for reduced ones, abe has posted in detail about it several times.
