We have a fully working, stocked, scientific fabrication and repair shop in Gainesville, FL and we are looking for someone to take over the business.

Gainesville is a beautiful, liberal, college town surrounded by granddaddy oaks and freshwater springs. With the University of Florida, Santa Fe College, IFAS, the Farm Bureau, and many local research centers and laboratories in town, there are many opportunities for scientific repair and fabrication. I would like someone to step into a turn key shop and make it their own. A degree is preferred but not required- experience and references are a must.

The shop sits on an 11acre artist retreat that includes all facets of glass working. We have multiple buildings on the property devoted to lampworking, scientific glass, fusing, cold working, furnace work, and metal arts and fabrication. For years we have taught classes on lamp working, fusing, slumping, sculpture, furnace work and more. Currently we have stopped offering classes and have been focused on our own body of art work. I do not have the time to continue the scientific end of this business.

The shop includes two lathes, more fire power then I can list, annealing ovens, and common parts for repair and fabrication. It's basically a turn key shop- fully equipped and stocked. You would have free reign over this shop with some accounts handed down and any new accounts would be yours. You will need to drum up most of your own business- make the rounds in Gainesville, introduce your self and services you provide, advertise your business and make it grow.

Residency on site is a possibility if you would like to trade maintenance of the property for rent/ utilities. We have a treehouse reserved for resident artists, a school bus converted into a home, and a new artists cottage that is currently under construction. These are all small, humble dwellings full of character. This could be temporary housing or possibly permanent residence for the right individual.

This position will pay the shop a percentage of the earned income. Shop rental, electric oxygen, gas and access to the cold shop are all included. You just need to provide the ability and ambition to make it work. Most of our current work is being produced from the furnace and metal shops, and we would like to see the scientific glass shop we worked so hard to create full of life again! If you are a motivated, family friendly, skilled scientific glassworker this position could be perfect for you!!

Sorry mods I know this goes in the classifieds but for some reason it wouldn't allow me to set a prefix in turn wouldn't allow me to post it.

Does anyone know if Salem students have a forum or a discussion board? I plan on running an add in the fusion but really not sure where to post this. It's a busy time of year for scientific work and I'm just turning them away. I hate to lose these accounts permanently.

If the powers that be can move this to the classifieds I would really appreciate it.

I'm a current student at SCC in the scientific glass program but I'm only a first year so I'm in no position to even consider this opportunity right now. However, you might want to contact Dennis Briening who runs the Scientific glass program. I know he is always on the look out for opportunities for his students and he would probably pass this information on to some of the students who might be interested. Good luck.

Thank you for the help.

Position is still open. I was in the shop today and serviced both lathes. Looking around I realize there is to much unused equipment. I plan on starting to sell off surplus soon. I would like to have this position filled before I do so they can make the call on what stays and what goes. Unfortunately no serious prospects yet.

I have contact Dennis Briening on my to do list. If anyone has contact info would you please send me a pm.
