I only drop in here once in a while these days (damn toddler stealing all my internet time!), and the "new posts" page is the easiest way for me to keep up on what's been going on since my last visit. The thing is, I only come here to talk/read about glass. If there could be any way to filter out sections of the forum (I'm looking at you, "politics" and "safety break"), that would make my time here that much more enjoyable. I understand if it's too much trouble (I can always just scroll past them, I guess), but I don't really need random glassblowers' opinions on healthcare, and I have a reddit account if I want mildly funny time-wasting (I have a feeling that's where 90% of the safety break room comes from, anyway). Again, it's a minor issue, but this is a glass forum, after all.

Currently there isn't a way to filter the new posts. I could look into what it would take to make that happen, and if it's not insane I will add it to my to-do list. ;)

Hey Misha,
It Would Be Awesome Be Able To Search Sections Like Mentioned Above & Also I Was Thinking Recently It Would Be Nice To Have A Drop Down "Order" Filter For Searches In General...(Like A Site With "Newest First" "Oldest First" "Highest Price First" "Lowest Price First")

So Instead of Just Coming Up As...Most Recent Threads To Be "Posted In" Containing The Words(I Think)...You Could Choose Between That And Other Stuff Like...Most Recent Thread To Be "Started" Containing The Words...Most Amount Of Search Words Mentioned In "Whole Thread"...& Most Amount Of Search Words Mentioned In "Just Thread Title"... And Im Sure There Are A Few Other Variations That Would Help People Find What They Are Looking For When They Search That Im Not Thinking Of At The Moment(And Might Help Get Rid Of "UTFSE" Also)

If There Is Something Like This Please!! Let Me Know :)

Some of that like newest, oldest, etc can be found in your settings already. The search engine should take care of being able to search for a specific term, but we don't have any filters for it. We do have tags and tag clouds! Those also come in handy. :)

You can add 6 tags to any thread, but if you start a thread you can add up to 42.

There's talk of hashtag integration but I'm not sure if that will happen yet or not.

If you want to keep things more organized, try using the "mark forum read" feature. I use it when I leave a forum after checking it, then only threads with new posts show up in bold the next time I go by that room. When you're in a main forum there should be an option for "forum tools" like there is "thread tools" in the top right here.

Hope this helps. :D

how about not having "profile comments" show up in the new posts section...it seems some people don't understand the difference between a "profile comment" and a Private Message and watching people try to "privately" lowball a seller on here is kind of strange....

Ahh Ok...That Will Deff Help A Bit...

I know the older/newer first thing can be switched around but isnt the order in which stuff comes up based off which has the most current post on its thread for the words searched? That's why i think having another option or two to search like "Most Recently Started"(& opposite) in addition to now's "Most Recently Posted In"(& its opposite) and an option to "Search Titles" or "Search Thread" under those other 2(actually 4) options for their search words might help people...The Tags sound great! That's good to know (So are those tags something that only effect your interests?, Because it might be a really good way for people to find a good search result if they could search by "Most Tagged" (This might be the "Cloud" part, I don't know & will have to go take a look) & The marking forums read sounds like it will help a lot with people that have been on for awhile to find new stuff, I guess I was thinking more of the new people who are trying to find the thread in the first place with my search filter suggestions...

Well Off to Look Into Tags & Tag Clouds!!! Thanks For All the Help!! ( As Usual :) )
