Hey glass family! Up for auction we have a gorgeous glass decanter made and donated by Jesse Whipkey aka Mecha! (http://www.talkglass.com/forum/member.php?4328-Mecha) You can find more of his awesome art at www.whipkeyglass.com, and connect with him on facebook. (https://www.facebook.com/jwhipkeyglass)
I got started with glass in 1997 in Tucson Arizona. I worked for a small production studio for a little over a year before it went bust. I ended up going off on my own at that point and never stopped.
In around 2001, I was randomly approached by the owner of GFI (a scientific glass company) at my studio one day and basically offered a job. I went to work for them 3-4 days a week. At first, I worked primarily on repairing various lab equipment. By the time I left, I was making and repairing all of the small to mid sized borosilicate apparatus.
Currently, I work from my studio in the DFW area.
Check out this amazing decanter he made and donated! :bouncy:
This is a fully functional* decanter made from black glass with slyme highlights.
*Not a smoking device.
This decanter stands about 14 inches tall with the lid on and would be the talk of any dinner party! :D Pics will never do this piece justice but a few of our members have seen this in Madison as it was in a silent auction there. The winning bid was $250 but we could not reach the winning bidder...sad face. But! That means more of you get to see it now and maybe Jesse will get a little more promotion out of it this way. :D
