i am curious about what countries have a glass pipe culture

which ones might support one in the future

and what the trends are in glasspipes in these various places

and what particular things about their current culture supports glasspipes

and in the future countries, what is driving them to developing a glasspipe culture.

ill try to consolidate the info and opinions here in a list if there is much response.

I'm going to move this thread into the main Glass Discussion area to see if you get some more eyes on it.

Pipes are a novelty in the u.s. because they are taboo. They are like pristitutiin in that no one gives a shit in other countries and its considered a degenerate pursuit.

I used to send pipes to Japan often and they liked the nice ones like bubblers and nice dries. I imagine there has to be a scene there to support the orders we were sending.

My buddy brought a bunch of pieces back to Switzerland to try and sell. He said no one was interested at all. They all like to mix with tobacco and roll it. Burning a pure herbal blend without the tobacco is incredibly foreign to them.

I'm currently in Eugene learning to blow glass, I found it incredibly difficult to learn and network with glassblowers in australia due to there being so few of us and the distaces involved.

The pipe scene differs from state to state. Dry pipes are legal in practically every state so there should be a potential market for heady drys.
Water pipes are a different story, they are sold but under the term 'oil pourer'. The disclaimer of being sold for smoking tobacco products doesn't seem to fly legally but the oil pourer term does... its strange.

I seem to think if there were more people making heady glass in australia the market will buy it. Currently your only choice for glass is Chinese or Indian or from online.

isnt japan like super underground about pipes cause of stiff penalties?

i wonder what the social stigma is in japan and how and how much it varies.

Japan is an interesting place when it comes to these things. Most of the cannabis in that country comes from Korea, and is quite expensive. Most of the Japanese guys I have known say that things like High Times is very popular, and American Cannabis Culture is pretty trendy with those that smoke there. That includes glass pipes. I have no idea what the actual laws are on glass in Japan, but I know that American Cannabis is the trendiest thing they could hope to get (think dabs in non medical states) and the glass goes hand in hand with it. Glass artists are becoming very popular, and there are quite a few Japanese glass workers who are doing amazing (some making pipes, and some not) I suspect that based on all of this, it's probably a juicy pipe market waiting to happen. I do know that pipes are sold openly there, including water pipes. Im not sure if it's a term based thing (this isnt a pipe..its an oil pourer) or not, but they are sold openly.

i found one shop in new zealand, but i imagine there are a bunch. it looks like there is astrong pipe culture but still very illegal. there is a museum. in 2010 there were protests and a smoke bomb was rolled into the police station.

anyway, the shop picks i saw shelves filled with plastic and metal. new zealand sounds prime future target. \

hey keep ya grubby mits of my potential goldmine :)..yep down here in new Zealand cannabis culture is pretty big.have one of the highest rates of use in the world I think...

you can be given 3 years prison and $10,000 fine for manufacturing drug paraphernalia here. plastic, wooden and metal pipes are everywhere, some Chinese/indian glass still gets through, sent as glass spoons with no bowl hole popped that they get drilled out here lol..

im guessing we might have the highest priced oxy in the world at $131us a g tank, anyone pay more?

crap, i just derailed my own thread

so its worth the risk for you to make glass pipes? i mean, how easy do u get away with making glass tobacco pipes?

cas
12-09-2013, 09:47 PM
a g tank is 8.3 cubic metres or 17,000kPa

im a total beginner lampworker but im fulltime making prodo spoons as my only source of income.

its totally worth doing it if you can get your oxy situation sorted.

id have to raise my prices maybe 50% to compensate for oxy that expensive.

i think id like to come to nz for three months and see what happens

That oxy cost is insane. Good to see a Kiwi on here.

how expensive are oxycons there? i mean at the rate your paying for compressed you could very quickly build your own oxy gen system

im gonna assume that i dont know why it is what it is but it is.

it looks like you can bargain for very cheap electricity in nz, hydrogen generator maybe?

cas

we have a schott distributor here(you need to pre order cases),oxycons are best imported yourself because they cost $3000 each here.
bring everything else with you id say because i have to buy all my stuff overseas.

a small bead kiln like a chilli pepper costs $2000 here so maybe send a kiln over too lol..

pm me if you want to know anything,id pay you for some lessons if you come here..

nicko0
12-10-2013, 01:46 PM
wow, is that just because of import duties?

cas
12-10-2013, 02:33 PM
I think its just retailers marking stuff up really high..

when I Imported 2 oxycons (I bought 2 8lpm for $1500nz each) I paid $560 import tax and duty.theres some processing fees and then of have to pay $15% of the total cost of your item (which including theshipping price too)..

it still early days for me but im planning eventually a trip to the states and bringing home a homefill setup,a gtt and a kiln..

My dream is to own a head shop ;) now if only the government would pass some relaxed herb laws life would be great.
