Hey what does everyone listen to when they blow glass?

Right now I have Eligh, The Grouch, Atmosphere. Son Doobie, The Dead, Cunning Lynguists, Deftones, Guru, Half-pint, HeiroGlyphics, Jurassic 5, Eric Clapton, The Clash, Niel young, Godsmack, Dilated peoples, Mostly a bunch of Underground labels and artists, Hip-hop , this stuff is sweet, Dont just listen to what they feed us on the radio, :attitude: Commercial radio is just about selling cds, :ohwell: not listening to good music, sometimes its good mostly its not. What else do you all listen to, just curious.

I have my Mp3 player hooked up on my auxillary, so I put it on random and just go....Everything from James Brown, Umphreys McGee, Zappa, Robert Johnson, WEEN, Primus, Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, NOFX, Kyuss, Led Zeppelin, Phish, MMW, Leo Kottke....are ones that stick out right now, but I have like 3800, songs on my Mp3 so I dont hear the same one for like a couple weeks....Torchin glass without music sucks IMO.....

I love music almost as much as glass. I have almost 50 gigs of music currently, but the computer is not at the shop, so I've been burning MP3 discs with like 6 hours of music each. Less changing CD's, plus you can listen to a bunch of band's albums until you're tired of them, then switch CD's when you have a minute. For example, I have the entire Ramones Discography on one CD (18 albums or something), but who could listen to 6 hours of ramones straight??? After 3 cd's you start hearing the same songs with different words...lol. So I'll start it on a random album and let it play until I'm over it, then move on to something else. It also works good for putting 6-12 albums onto an MP3 cd, and push shuffle. It's like radio with good music and no announcers. I can't wait to network the computer to the shop so I can tap into my whole song library easily. The other option is getting an iPod I guess, since they just introduced the 20GB Color Screen model for $299.

I have and listen to everything from Sublime, Black Sabbath, Ween, Reason for Ruin, Bob Marley, 36 Crazy Fists, Slayer, DJ shadow, Outkast, Aphex Twins, Nouvelle Vague, Modest Mouse, Dropkick Murphy's, Misfits, Kruden & Dorfmeister, Social Distortion, Nirvana, Eminem, Janes Addiction, Keller Williams, Mofro, Muddy Waters, Robert Johnson, G&R, Doors, Hendrix, Paul Oakenfold, Evergreen Terrace, Coheed and Cambria, Snuff, Cypress, Aerosmith, etc. etc. etc. Shit I could list bands that I listen to for days, half of 'em no one would even recognize probably. I can't blow glass without music, so it's become an addiction for new music almost as much as trying new glass techs.

I was thinking of this the other day and a better question (or easier to answer) is "what band/group/artist has been in your CD player the most lately."

My Answer: "Pepper" has grown on me lately. It's a sublime-esque punk/reggae/ska band, but they have some funny ass lyrics and provide a mellow uplifting beat/environment which is good when I don't really feel like working...lol.

man, i saw Pepper when they played with OPM here in Houston. I work for Sub-Noize records doing promotions so i went to everyone waiting in line and asked who they were there to see and they all said Pepper, no one had even heard of OPM. OPM played right before Pepper. Me and most of the dudes in OPM had just smoked(out of some pieces i made) and when they went on they had the whole place just JAMMIN! U could tell very easily that everyone enjoyed OPM WAY better than Pepper, not to diss them its just funny that no one really got into it when they played. If u like Pepper then you'll love OPM(get their new album For TheMasses-it's the best one). But uhh,,mainly i listen to the KOTTONMOUTH KINGS!!

There are a few groups posted up here im checkin out tonite, its always good to see what others are listening too, that is how I discovered quite a few new bands, long beach dub all stars is sublime without bradley, I discovered that yesterday, there pretty sweet to. Kid im workin with has a ton of bands I never heard of up on his ipod.

Seek enlightenment thru others.

Quote "Good point ill be more direct with my questions next time."

No worries, this has come up a few times at the old forum, not since the switch to the new board, so that's cool it got brought up, I was just thinking about starting it out that way the other day since it's been posted your way before. I thought it would be a different spin on an old question. Nothing wrong with either, either...lol.

Oh, after Sublime it was Long Beach Dub All Stars (with like 10 guest artists), and now they are touring as Long Beach Short Bus (which is just the 2 surviving members of sublime but with Ras-One instead of the late Bradley). I think it's one of Brad's bro's because they are similar. It's cool though, don't worry, he's not trying to BE Bradley, so it's different music, but it's still the same 'genre' of music. They sound like a mature sublime sometimes. The live show is WAY better than the CD too - I've seen them live a few times, and of course they are sportin' some NoDFX Glass.

Qute "does anyone have a recommendation for some good software to download music with? Ever since soulseek went offline, I haven't really found anything worth using"

I've been using xDonkey, but I'm on a Mac. I'm sure they have it for windows, but just beware, it's not as easy as kazaa once was to get started. Once you have the correct settings that don't come defaulted, but once you're set up, it's a breeze. It took me about a week of lurking their forums to get going.

I already have all the glasstalk radio shows burned to CD - you can download them from their website. Not as easy as podcasting maybe, but they are available and it's better if you have highspeed inet too. I'm just saving them for a day when I'm really bored - I tried to listen while I work, but I need beats and rhythm. Dale is cool though.

Groove Salad is cool - I have that one bookmarked. I usually use iTunes for my music player, and they have a huge selection of radio stations. I'm sure all the music player programs that offer radio probably use the same stations though. I really want to get the new iPod this month for travelling purposes, and music of course, and saving images from the digital camera while I'm away from the computer...Damn they are handy, how did I get by w/o one for so long?

Ahhh...music...Alright, back to work. It's about to get hot as fuck outside and I wanna get some shit done before our shop is converted into a day sauna.

IPOD info,

Download a copy of copypod to share your friends ipod with your computer, it allows you back up files to itunes or to a folder, I borrowed 3 peoples pods at work useing this program, I now need to get a bigger ipod 60g are 379.00 on there site if you are currently a student they give you a discount, u just have to enter the school nearest you that you are registered at and they will automatically bring you to a discount version of there website, also student discounts with there computers as well I believe, but you have to order off there site, they will even engrave your name on your pod a nd a message for free. Just a little fo for all the music addicts out there. A friend told me about it. Hope that helps somebody

ahh yea, "NOFX - The Delcine" gets me going when I'm not feeling like working...15 minute long punk song that doesn't repeat verse chorus verse chorus verse chorus, quick sloppy bridge, chorus, end. It's like 10 punk songs crammed together that flow well.

Anyone hear of Guta, Tayst, or Reason for Ruin? 3 great smaller bands that I enjoy so I thought I'd share. Guta is a total original groove rock band with profound lyrics and they are touring the East Coast right now - mostly NC, VA, and WV. Tayst is from North Florida, and they are a 3pc. rock band with extremely talented musicians - very catchy, almost pop riffs, but seriously not a pop-punk or pop-rock band. It's like beach rock with a youthful partying spirit. They are playing a bunch of shows from Orlando to Georgia in the next few weeks. Reason for Ruin is out of Seattle, and I'm pretty sure they are playing around right now also. They are a good groove/rock/jam band with a reggae influence, good lyrics and vocals, and they even have a song or two about glassblowing. I'm pretty sure John at Olympia Glassworks use to sing for Reason for Ruin at one point...hehe...ask him for a CD if you place an order there...tell him I sent you too.

Anyway, there's some recomendations. They aren't rock and rock gods, yet, or anything, but they have potential and are tight bands. Check 'em out if you have time and like trying new music. I'm not guarantee'ing that you'll love it, but they are 3 discs that I return to time after time.

First check out... http://www.gutarocks.com

I happen to land on it one day while setting the tuner for my daily glass session and the beat was decent. Scince then I've been hooked. I know all the words or at least the sounds to to make to the ones they play the most. Even there sad stuff has a good tempo and is uplifting. Allen Wrench did kill Elduce, but it could have been worse, he could have punched that worthless drunk in the stomach like skip. Allen killed Elduce to be the best friend he could be, now that whole curt murder situation, that was just plain mean.
By the way, Allen Wrench lives down the hilll from me, so if anyone wants to try to beat him up, hit me up and ill bring the camera. You should have life insurance.

SIRIUS SATELLITE is the way to go. No commercials, no annoying DJ's. REAL talk Radio. Im lovin it, the Reggae and the Jam station are great and Raw Dog comedy too. Everyone should get one.

Radioinactive (Free Kamal and Pyrimidi), The Weather, Bus Driver (Fear of a black tangent), C-Ralz Walz (We Live/Black Samurai), Die Young (Ravish), Aceyalone (All balls don't bounce), Abstract Rude and Tribe Unique (paint), Aesop Rock (Float), Freestyle Fellowship (Inner City Griots) and Heiroglyphics (Third Eye Vision and Full Circle, except I took "Chicago" and "Jingle Jangle" off of Full Circle, because I can't believe they wrote those shitty tracks).
