ive always wished for a thread that endlessly weighed the differences between the various amber purple family of colors.

i find ns ap more difficult to burn off the initial thick haze on the rod vs loki. triple passion burns off nice and doesnt get as milky as fast as ap or loki,

triple passion is nice, is it underrated? im having really good results with the frit inside honeycombs. do u feel it works better deep under clear than ap or loki, which tend to get muddy for me.

the magic of stormy weather. too bad it usually looks icky.

passion extreme, mega mai tai, way more mega extreme than dap.

mai tai pink for prez. I agree trip passion is cleaner than ap or dap. Mai tais are for me though!

I love the Mai Tai's and the Passion Family. Im new so my versatility with color can improve, but I only ever have good success with surface working the NS AP's.

What is considered to be the best purple strike to be encased in clear and still get that vibrant purple?

I do alot of iso work and ap doesn't really seem to do the trick and pop like when it's unencased.

I love dap and lokis as rod but not as frit. I can never get the same results encased.

how strong would you say double mai tai is?

I'm curious to see how people chime in on this one. I love the AP family and am having similar problems with them mudding when encased in clear.

I have had nice results with silver creek (blown in). Seems to retain the vibrant purples better than any other color I've used in this application. Granted, I don't really know what the hell I'm doing and my less than stellar results with other colors could be (and probably is) user error. Silver creek FTW though.

Double mai tai is like double ap mega is nice quick to get purple but is a really dark purple almost black jamboree is an interesting color could get muddy though I like silver creek the original caramel luster was the best one but they reformulated it now

Double Mai Tai is just a shade lighter than DAP. I almost consistently have good results with silver creek, I have been really enjoying Solara paired up with fuming these days.

I've been loving Queen Bee lately.
With the right flame, I can usually get the colors to pop, even when encased.

I like the amber purple family for surface. passions work best for me inside out on hollow work. TAG works great inside out but excels encased for solid work, especially stuff that might get reworked and would over reduce other brands. Silver creek is great for any application when I want purple, but it lacks some reduction I crave when doing surface work.

maitai pink is a sexy beast, but I have a tendency to get batches full of air. limits the amount of ways I can use it. stringers laid inside out can look cool even with the bubbles. however an extended carb or surface wart will have a rough texture unless I mix and pull down the color prior to using it.

Been working some ap and double up marble blow outs. I noticed I get much better strike on the ones that have a low color to clear ratio.

The ones with thicker color tend to have a bit more haze.

The ones with a thin amount of ap or dap strike well . Just work tell clear and strike at 1150.

I never can get up fine frit to strike under clear.

I can get great surface work results out of it.

I personally prefer amber purple. I use it inside, outside and encased.I love the way it strikes back and I have had no problems with it checking.

sashas oil slick is by far my favorite in the amber family purple family. If its even in that family, im pretty sure it is.. I like the mai tais allot, but they just boil so much on me. Ill one use them if im out of everything else. Looks awesome if you dont boil them though.

I would have to say that AP is my favorite, although the only APs i have used are AP and DAP. I have always had great luck encasing AP, although DAP isn't quite as cool. It is cool I guess..but the color I get out of it is never what i'd reach for an AP to produce. I have used the passions, and I tend to like those, especially the more saturated ones. Jamboree and Solara are both cool as well, although mine pop like crazy if i'm not careful. Silver Seaweed is a good one too! I've only used it a little, but I really like Silver Seaweed, and Silver Pearl, especially mixed with some of the more purple AP colors (like normal AP)

jamboree seems to strike well for me every time. inside or outside. but it just hasnt stayed in my palet.

ive found most of the low to medium saturation ones like to have a reactive clear like kimble or chinese over them to enhance the blue haze.

otherwise i put simax to lessen the effect.

never did care for schott, i need to revisit it tho.

istandalone24/7
01-23-2014, 02:26 PM
^^i thought Simax was the clear you wanted in order to fully realize the color potential in regards to the a/p's and silver strikers?

rye
01-23-2014, 03:31 PM
well it just depends on the application and the desired effect. simax inhibits striking to a certain degree, which is why it doesn't produce the hazy blue halo effect, which can be pretty sweet. so if you want that, use schott or whatever, but all the striking colors ive used look way better encased (or rather imploded) in simax.

Trevor

im confused... I thought simax didn't have the silver growth inhibiter thingie

smolder holder

Simax is the least reducing out of the clears we have available. That's why silver colors look more vibrant when encased inside simax as opposed to schott which will easily reduce silver based colors.

i really dig the Mai Tai. Mega is the one I'm using now and that color is fantastic

stormy weather. ive been chasing that color around my torch for years. you can just tell if you figured out how to control it it would be the best ever. but it goes so wrong so fast and so easily. every variable so touchy.

is there has there been an aptype color anything close to it?

nicko0

silver beach momka claims to be a stable color deep encased.

i hope this means that it strikes well even deep without just getting too hazed like most heavy saturated colors.

anyone confirm this?

hashmasta-kut
02-16-2014, 02:33 PM
typically stable with deep encasing is referring to how some colors have the tendency to crack and spiderweb if they are encased too deeply, like many greens, so good luck :)

nicko0
02-16-2014, 04:59 PM
i thought it might not be about the cracking thing considering ap colors dont really have that problem.

you've got to burn the color clear (get the haze out) before putting it under clear. If you encase before that step, the "mud" is trapped in there, and you cannot get it out

i would reeeaaallly like to see/ try some super saturated ap color clear coat hand pulled tube. mega or extreme or . stormy, but i really dunno if thats even worth a try........;..

what i'd like to see is a GA Starry Night but with way more silver. i love that blue sparkle, but it's not silvery/saturated enough for me.

i took GA sapphire and mixed in what i thought was mega mai tai and it came out so sweet, but i've tried to replicate it a few times and failed each time...it just turned to muddy looking, hazy shit on the last few attempts & i can't figure out what i did differently.

Has anyone used an AP powder frit?
Any suggestions on which is better for frit rolls? Perhaps any flame and working suggestions?
