The training of bees to react when they detect specific scents is absolutely real. I've seen something about them being used in bomb explosive detection. They learn faster than dogs (namely because they breed faster) and they're easier to transport. The cancer detection is new to me, but I'd not be surprised if it's a thing.
This particular method seems fishy though. In the documentary I saw the bees were trained to stick out their tongue/proboscis when they detected a scent. A camera + computer would register that action. I'm not sure how you'd train them to fly into a secondary chamber.

Yes, bees can detect cancer. It IS a thing.
Yes, you can train them to fly into a secondary chamber. That would seem a simple trick if you've seen bees in detection applications.
