Italian Master Emilio Santini will be teaching 2 classes at FlameTree Glass School October 2014! Dates and Class Descriptions below:
Class 1:
Emilio Santini - Venetian Beads and Sculptures
Oct 16/17 2014 Thu/Fri 10-5pm
Learn to make miniature beads and venetian sculptures with Emilio Santini. From scurrying insects, intricate animals and exquisite human form, a combination of soft glass designs will be covered. Blown beads, venetian style, how to apply soft glass objects onto beads, and off mandrel sculptures will also be practiced. Techniques such as heat control, applying heat back into and denying heat away from, will be skillfully demonstrated by Maestro Emilio. Lecture includes working soft glass vs boro, working off mandrel with punty and blowing with soft glass. This class is mostly soft glass practice however borosilicate glass can be used with most of the techniques. The class is open to every level of experience.
Class 2:
Emilio Santini - Glass Blowing
Oct 18/19 2014 Sat/Sun 10-5pm
Learn glass blowing with Emilio Santini. Drawing from a century old family tradition in glass blowing, Emilio will instruct you, starting with the basics, all the way to construction of your own stylized creation. How to pull proper points, working with clear and color borosilicate, lip wraps, how to spin and flare, segmented construction, and making miniature vessels will all be covered. Lecture includes proper welds, re-introducing heat, aligning, and making corrections will be discussed. Practice will involve laying down color, proper rotation, flaring with jacks also learning to shear and trim. This class is mostly working with borosilicate however, if you are good boys and girls Emilio will show you how to build this in soft glass as well! The class is open to every level of experience.
