So a week or two ago I found this diesel engine fire pump controller. so I've gutted it and now I'm going to start making it into a sandblasting cabinet. I just wish the window was a little bigger!

Reminds me of the first time, after buying our house, that I realized if I needed to put a hole in the wall, I could just put a hole in the wall. It was my wall :)

That will make one slick cabinet! Can weld studs at different heights and have adjustable shelves.

Am guessing you will be weather stripping it?
Are you planning a siphon feed or pressure pot type blaster?
What type of lighting?
Are you planning a recovery funnel at the bottom?

Yea i know, lots of questions.
Just curious, because I am a bit jealous :)

The cabinet already comes with watertight seals. i'm going to build a funnel box inside the cabinet with the siphon feed on the bottom of it so i never have to refill there is already holes for all the hoses and i'm thinking rope light all around. And the self idea too but i was thinking magnets on shelf's to make them adjustable.

I have always had much better luck with pressure pot systems for most things that i do. But if you have a good quality syphon system i am sure you will be happy.

What size compressor you running?

My current system has 2 water traps. One at the tank and one right at the blaster.
My media always gets damp in the syphon system and pisses me off. If you Are well versed in blasting any tips you could provide would be very appreciated.

Did i mention i am jealous of your new cabinet?

This is what I've found helps in no particular order

Keep the light on the cabinet all the time this will keep your blasting media dry. You need a dust collector even if it's just a shop vac with a hepa filter. it's really not that important to have your cabinet sealed. If you think about your pumping air into the cabinet it has to go somewhere and you need to suck it out or visibility will be terrible. Harbor freight sells inexpensive aluminum oxide that works well for carving. Upgraded tips from scatt are well worth the money. You need a lot of air for a siphon system and much less with a pressure pot. Picture framing glass is inexpensive and works better then the plastic protectors for your viewing window. If your siphon gun clogs place your finger over the tip of the gun this will force the media out and back to the bottom of the cabinet. Adjust your cabinet to a comfortable height to sit at a high stool. A foot pedal control makes the feed output less cumbersome and more agile. To much media in the cabinet will negatively effect it's ability to siphon. Keep the cabinet and the mess outside really no need to have it in the shop.

And the best tip I have is plastic dip in a spray works amazing on uneven surfaces and masking off large areas. They sell it at lowes for 6 bucks a can.

very good tips Its gonna be a siphon type where the cabinet itself well be the hopper and the collector. I was looking at window glass it was a little more expensive then the acrylic sheet I was looking at. the cabinet won't be seal the top hole about the door is going to have a large HEPA filter on it. My compressor is a 50 gal 4.9 cfm @ 90psi so the compressor can run without fulling the tank and I can still blast. This is also very new for me I've never blasted before so the tips really help. I'll have a water trap on the compressor and I can build a dryer for the grit with some kind of blade tumbler or screw drive so it feeds correctly.
