If you have access to a circular saw, then you can pick up a masonary saw blade for it for about $25.00. They work really well, and leave a very nice edge. Just don't forget your dust mask as that stuff is really nasty to inhale.

wet saw will cause hardie backer to start to degrade and leak nasty shit... the snap method is my fav. i can get a pritty nice line, if i need it cleaner i just use a belt sander and bring it down and use patch compound for it. they have all you need to work it where you buy it.

treat it like sheetrock. I cover cut edges with alum-tape.keeps dust down, and looks clean.

HA! I found that out the hard way when it was pouring down rain a few weeks back and I just had to cut a piece right then. It had been 6 or 7 years since I used the old masonry blade and I had forgotten how much cancerous dust hardibacker likes to grace us with. It only takes a couple cuts to cover EVERYTHING in your shop!

Doesn't put out much dust if you scor it with a razor blade and then snap it. You don't need power tools.

Masonary blade = $25
Razor blade = $.032 each
Having your hardibacker cut to the right size = priceless

Measure twice cut once. In my years doing dry wall I never used anything more complex than a razor knife to make even intricate cuts. A straight edge and good measruments are all it takes.
