Couple dabbers a drippy glob and an attempt at a sherlock, The consistency of melting glass is crazy! Ive been doing a ton of research, video watching, spinning dowels in my hand, and going to all the local events/ checking out local artists at work, but nothing can prepare for that hands on experience. mmmm felt good. been trying to get some torch time before i had got my setup but couldnt find anyone in metro Detroit area that wasn't busy. let me know if your in the general area and down to give some lessons. I ordered my contemp lampworking book a week before ordering my setup from mountain glass and they beat the book here still waiting for the book i imagine a readthrough will help me greatly.

Thats what learning is all about. even mistakes look cool. Every freaky thing you pull out of the fire is a lesson.
So what type of torch? $$$ the big expensive type or a starter torch?
minor,alpha,cricket,mini cc?

starter route with alpha. i had seen you say you were waiting for your concentrator to come. today i went through an entire o2 tank. what was your o2 consumtion like, i did have the psi set way to high at first reading my gauges wrong was set near 40 rather than 8 for about an hour.

Hahaha np, was looking for another starter mid range level torch. someone had posted a nortel midrange a few days ago for 100 i had pm'd them hoping to scoop it up no word back yet. I have beth alpha torch its surface mix would also be interested in any premix burner just so i could compare.

Yea, the big flame with lots of oxygen is actually cooler, I turned things down and get 12-16 hours from a 154CF "S" tank.
I made a youtube video and they guys said I was raging my torch so I backed it off and run it milder and actually get more done by a mile.
Saved me lots of money.
I was so close to getting an alpha but found the GTT on E bay and set a max bid that I was getting it no matter what. GTT bobcat for $172.50
Now I would like to try out a Beth Bravo.
How big a O2 tank....? A alpha should sip the gas....
You need to watch some videos with Beth torches... The center is a alpha , or close.
Most new peeps think the torch candles need to be sharp , and in focus.. ( lots of 02 ) I imagine your running too much 02? Look up the "Amazon night test " that can help show you different flames , and correct regulator settings.. ( it's in Your book)

actually an alpha can rip through oxy pretty quick, quicker then you'd think. also take into account that jxbey is new to this...when i was still very new to this i used way more oxy then i needed to. after a while you learn your flame chemistry and once you can dial in the flame you want quick, you waste less oxy.

4 foot oxy tank. happen to have 2 of them and its only 20 to fill not that bad but i ran through another full one and a thrid of the second one. ran about 10 hours straight larger flame was melting rod. Also found out why i may have been burning so much. didnt realize this until finshing the first tank today and setting the 2nd one up that i have been setting the psi to 8 when the torch flame was on rather than when the oxy valve is closed. 2nd day on torch reached the goal of making functional spoon. just getting in at 3am started around 2. :twitch: Gonna post a pic in this of my day 2 and then start saving pics of for a progression thread. For sure what istandalone said also using a ton of oxy dialing in my flame. have done the color test and flame was neutral.

Put this cat on a mid range and everyone stand back and enjoy the show. Subscribing let us know if you start a progression thread elsewhere. Keep up the good work and don't forget to ask questions. Lots of people here with a TON of infinitely valuable knowledge that comes from years of experience, trial and error. Keep with the pics! Rep!
