That maya would be a lot sweeter run with air but nothing wrong with those flames. Annealing type flames are common don't let it hurt you let it expand your mind with knowledge. The drill works for him some do it by hand he uses a one sided hand held lathe.
Seen all his vids ,pretty sure he runs candle's short as shit ,you can see the face melting hot in one vid.Not sure if he ruined that torch but my guess is yea.Real bad habits (at the time ,who knows now)but I wonder if he was using daddy's torch?

i see its gets the job done im open to whatever works just didnt look as effective im new to flame working but ive never seen a torch fire like that, the drill is great seen that before some may think less of someones skill when using tools like that to their advantage im not one of them that's innovation
Forget you ever see any of that crap, the end is the best part lol but drill is good for some stuff other than drill I think the kid needs help but he's a old man by now not sure when the vid was posted but it's been a bit
You can almost tell how long he had been at the torch? ..... (a year to a few years in , or was just shown "how to do it" that way. )
The reason I said that , is he is very worried about his heat....... he keeps flashing the piece, and its going above and below that 950ish strain point , causing issues.... his top seal pops/cracks at a few stages......... He seems to be stressing the whole time. spinning his glass extra fast... (high emotions )
If he had just done the seals the first time , made sure they were melted in good...... AND let them cool off stiff before he jumps to the next step......No need to reheat/flash the top..... He starts the next step when half the old seal is still soft, it goes crooked , and gets stressed out....... then its hot cold hot cold , pop.....
If you can make it with as little stress as you can the first time , no need to reheat it all the time. Unless your changing it again in that cycle out of the kiln? even then, if the stress was low a cooler reheat should not cause a issue with clear glass...
The other big rookie move, he was about to melt his grabbers... he heated them for 10x toooooo long. just a quick one two three, and they are hot..... no need to melt them.
Other than the short candles for long amounts of time, He ran that torch fine imo....... the extra annealing was almost like he had no kiln? < He is addicted to the anneal flame (caused him more problems than help , took way longer to make) .... I know people who use a flame like that to pre heat tube to split/pull points (for no good reason imo, its clear glass)..... I use an annealing flame on big worked color pieces every 60 seconds or so... if I want to do more than one connection in one cycle out of the kiln.
clear tubing undrer 50mm or 5mm walls....I just put it right into the fire , spin it fast till it glows. Then spin it normal speed. almost 0 loss.... (I think I had 2 explode total out of hundreds in 2014 )
I like the drill tube foot...... great idea to get a lathe like foot on a bench.
