fyi, im starting to wonder if price is any indicator of quality. i notice that most colors have an priginal price of $28, but are now $10, and some are like $18. i normally drop a bunch of money for this sale and get a lot of stuff that is good. but last year was a huge disappointment, as almost half of my order was so bad that it was completely unusable. so just a heads up, you may want to stay away from the super cheap cheap.

i bought some yellow crayon, some eclipse, black violet, jamboree and a fuckton of indigo luster frit.....due to indigo luster is discontinued.

last year, the indigo luster i rec'd was the only color that didn't appear to be 3rds (think the absolute worst 2nds you can imagine), it was very good quality and i bought a few lbs...now i'm glad i did.

All is really good so far, only got thru a few lbs but everything I've used has been real stable. Some of my sapphire looks to have stones in the smaller rods but haven't melted any yet. Grab bag of odds and ends looks really awesome but I am waiting on a kiln with bead door to try to bust down those knuckles!

People were asking for a picture of the Pacific Blue and Shelbo posted a beautiful goblin made out of it to his IG page... such a beautiful color!

I bought 2 lbs of purple luster....maybe it was cause I kicked out the last of my propane tank on that pipe but it seems different from what I remembered...I mean it struck and over struck at certain points...I'm guessing it was the propane really if your saying its good...Are you making millis with it or how you using it...Indigo luster is getting discontinued...good thing I bought 3 lbs last year...Bought some Amazon Night, purple luster, 2lbs extreme,amazon lagoon, and good Good chuck of equinox for only $10...That was the first order...I paid the extra $35 or whatever it is to reserve the best colors ahead of the rush...Then order day (3am) slept in and saw on FB it started a day early this time round...I knew that but in the back of my head I knew I already had what I needed...Then I bought 7am sno white, eclipse black, Lemon Tube, more amazon lagoon, more purple luster, and a pound if green mint (the one I'm really excited to see in hand). The Equinox is strait, nice chuck, thinner layer of colbolt than last year, over all very happy!!!

I kinda feel shitty I missed out on pretty much everything from this sale, but I also last year had a not so fun time with the super thick blue layer on the equinox tube and the disco sparkle I had compared to a normal stick seems like total garbage that I want to throw away due to stones and the like, but it might just be that I don't have the skills to work out the problems with it and otherwise it is fine... /me shrugs But it made me kinda not want to ever get anything from them that is OC unless I am in store to look at it myself. I saw some good looking OC purple rain in the bins there and its wonderful. I just didn't want to risk buying a few lbs of color that ends up seeming like it should just be thrown away instead.

I am glad to see and hear people getting some nice stuff, I envy that rain drop tube! I only snagged a few firsts of the lemon drop tube and have yet to play with it, I was considering the seconds if anything just to compare but didn't bother. I also got the last two small indigo luster frit 4oz they had whoo hoo. And I JUST started using this color a few months back shucks! I like it a lot.

nah, last years stuff was horrid for the most part. the acid yellow, indigo luster and cobalt 4 were about the only decent colors (and i ordered 14 lbs last year). paris green, beryl, orange crayon were almost unusable.

today my order will be delivered, so here's to hoping the quality is better then 2014!

yeah, the raindrop tube I got is a little big for what im used to.
I think its the last part just before the knuckle.
its like 25x4 on one end but tapers up to like 38x8 or something on the other side.
its got some bubble/scuzz lines on some of it and some tool marks, hopefully I can just wipe that stuff off and it will be fine.
going to be interesting trying to pull/stretch that down for the first time.

the acid yellow looks ok, a couple bumps on them here and there but seemed to work good encased in cobalt.

Anything with 0 as a middle number I stay away from unless I encase with clear! Mostly cuz my skills arent up to not boiling the shit out of em yet... I stick to strikers and colors I can't boil lol

keep in mind....a lot of the bubbles you see aren't necessarily boiling....that is one of the things i've just recently (in the last 6 months) realized. i was using a lot of GA Iris, which is a pretty easily boiled color...but it's also bubbly. 9 out of 10 times i thought i was boiling the glass, i wasn't. the bubbles that came to the surface pop and smooth out.

i just took a stick of iris, and made a shitload of beads with it. after maybe a dozen, i got it down pat, and applied what i learned to other crayon colors that are prone to boiling.

still though some colors are a bit bubbly by nature, and even GA's tips says to work it and the bubbles will pop and smooth over. of course, my confusing bubbles for boiling all comes down to no proper training, mostly self taught and i can't afford classes right now.
suffice to say i only use cads when i need to...and even then they're usually encased with something.

I'm starting to recall the purple luster years ago was a creamy yellowish rod...this year it's transparent like extreme...is my memory right? Oqc is the best bang for your buck if ya ask me...

o/c quality is imo the best bang for the buck, color wise, if it's not full of large (rod length) bubbles and laden with stones. it's just a crapshoot i guess.

i usually stick with NS odds because of this...it's 1st quality color but funny shape rods. love my ns odds!

There are no gasses inside the gas. You're a little backwards: from wikipedia: "Sublimation is the transition of a substance directly from the solid to the gas phase without passing through the intermediate liquid phase". If you're curious, or like me had to look up the opposite of sublimation because it was bothering me I couldn't think of the word, "Deposition is a process where a gas changes phase and turns directly in solid without passing through the liquid phase." (Deposition has nothing to do with this, I just forgot the word, and chemistry is interesting.)

It's not that there are any gasses inside the glass, but that the cadmium in the coloring, when it gets too hot, expands and turns immediately into a gas, causing small bubbles.

So then heating it slow avoids that and essentially my simplification about the cadmium off gassing and causing boiling was not off, you just have a semantic issue with it and I could have worded it better or given a more complex explanation but did not have time to.

my haul this year (about 1/4 of what i bought last year) was nearly pristine. the yellow crayon is flawless, the eclipse and black violet look like 1sts aside from a couple small knuckles in the rod. the jamboree......pretty much all smaller diameter rods but other then that very good quality. and i happen to like thinner rods.
sucks...14lbs last year, most of it was crap. so i was leery this year....and turns out i should have loaded up. par for the course ime.
but i'm very happy with the quality this year.

definitely the purple luster must have changed...I found 4 older sticks that are light yellow creamy tan color...They strike purple with no reduction...The new rods are striking with a slight reduction...The end result looks totally different...I'm now curious how the extreme passion reacts in the flame cause the rods look identical to the purple luster except for a rod or two....

shipping won't be much lower then that no matter what...even if you live in the PNW. they don't cut rods down to save shipping, and they use these awesome biodegradable packing peanuts that go down the sinkpig/garbage disposal.
plus, not only do you pay for shipping, but you're paying for handling too.
for $12 to $20 a lb glass, it's worth it. obviously, buy as much weight as you can.

So odd to bitch about paying $$$ for shipping when your color is 10-18/lb. The shipping is neglible when you break it down per lb if you use the glass to make things to sell.

also, i know there are some pretty damn smart people here.
are you all forgetting that someone has to bundle, package, tape up, put shipping label on, update GA's computer with tracking numbers etc.

personally, i don't upcharge for "handling" but a company like GA (or mtn glass, or NS, or whatever) will in fact charge for the time it takes their employees to package the orders. i can't really believe you guys don't realize that.
