I'm wanting to make larger sculptures and I'm looking for options for bases. My 2 ideas are

1) using thick glass rods (26mm+) and a wooden base and drilling holes the same diameter as the rods to hold the scuplure up. But it's hard for me to find any bases I like besides marble ones but they are pricey and risky to drill but still a option

2) use a large thick glob as the base and lap it down flat. I'd have to purchase a flat lap machine to do it but it would be worth if it since it would really add to the sculpture. I've never used a lap either so I don't how how the vibrations would affect the sculpture.

Is option number 2 feasible? Or would I just be wasting money on the flat lap?
I've attached a joe peters sculptures that are similar to what I'm looking for for number 2.

Thanks

I think you want something heavy for a big sculpture, so maybe #1 with some kind of stone. Without a flat lap, it might be difficult to get a large enough and flat enough glass base. You could also consider making "feet" instead of using a base, but then it takes some effort to get all the feet to sit level. Good luck and please post a pic when you figure it out.
