Hey;

I see alot of stores selling pipes on Etsy; I want to put up my own but my store was already suspended. I was wondering, does anyone have any tips for selling pipes on Etsy? Any creative loopholes to keep the man from shutting me down?

Thanks
Sloshy

Keepthe carb out of the picture. Etsy accepts two hole pipes like chillums. Dont show the carb and you'll be okay

Even if it's clear that the pipe would have one (i.e. is shaped like a normal spoon, etc.)? I would assume that more transparent fume pipes would probably be out, since you'd be able to see the carb through the side of the pipe, no?

Suspended for selling pipes? i dont see why when so many others are doing it, i had just put a few pendants and pipes up myself if i do sell any pipes through there im making sure i get a picture of the ID with the matching name on account before shipping due to what ive read on here happening with minors

According to Etsy, items with a carb or slides violate their drug paraphernalia policy. Which is understandable, but that doesn't seem to stop anybody. Point taken about the ID though, definitely don't want to get hung up for that.

it's all in how you word it, and how you take the picture. i know....absolutely stupid. if etsy would change their rules, they'd make way more $.

back in the day, people would use hot glue over a "cleaning hole", then actually puff into the mouthpiece to partially inflate that hot glue.. i never got to see one in person, but i heard they could look quite.. natural.. or at least part of the piece.
anyone wanting to pop that glue off had an easy time of it.

Keep it simple. Spoons, sherlocks, and bats/chillums go over well. Steamrollers they don't like. Anything with a carb in the picture is no good. Nothing through water. No stems/slides. No oil rigs though I think some people might be doing trays and dabbers, might want to check. Couldn't hurt to put in your notes somewhere must be 18 to buy and that it's for tobacco use only.

Thank you for this. I had seen so many pipes on etsy that I didn't think there were any rules other than don't sell to minors. Cool. Incidentally, I didn't include shots of my carbs, but never on purpose.

this is the email i got when my shop was suspended for selling ash catchers:

"Hello,

This is Patrick from Etsy's Marketplace Integrity Team. Thanks for your interest in selling on Etsy.

I'm getting in touch because it looks like some of the items you listed in your shop don't qualify to be sold on Etsy. As a result, your selling privileges have been suspended.

Some items are inappropriate for Etsy's marketplace even though they may otherwise meet our selling criteria. Etsy prohibits the sale of drug paraphernalia. Here are examples of items that are considered drug paraphernalia:

- Items with a carburetor
- Slides and/or items with a slide
- All bongs
- All bubblers
- Steamrollers
- Oil domes, rigs, and dabbers
- Hash skillets
- Vaporizers
- Ash catchers
- Roach clips
- Any otherwise qualifying item presented as drug paraphernalia through titles, tags, or descriptions"

edit: dry pipes are ok, as long as the carb is not visible... so just strategically photo your pieces

i love the way some sellers get away with selling pipes with carb pics and other "illegal to etsy" features, but some people get shut right down.
does etsy get a chunk of the $ if an item sells?

yes, etsy takes 3.5% of all sales, and an additional 3.5% (which they call "money handling fees") if customer uses "Direct Checkout" which includes any credit card payment. I have never received a payment on etsy that wasn't "Direct Checkout".
