on the list for a mirage but might be able to get a snubnose sooner. just wondering if anyone has experience withe both torches.

Do it. I got a snubnose elite. I like it a lot. It puts out the same flame as a regular elite. I would suggest getting a marver for the "snubnose" torches from blastshield. I tried my buddys marver off of his regular elite and it was too long.

it just brings everything closer to you by a few inchs, my snub nose is on the way :)

how did the blastsheild marver fit.

It fits like it is meant to be there

yeah id say like a glove. thats one thing i was worried about with the snub nose. but looks like i can work with that.

I always thought if I got a snub I would use a bottom marver and have gtt weld on a rail with a tab. That rail and tab add tree fiddy though

That is was my ordeal, i wasn't sure about the snub nose mirage with a marver on it cause it might be to close to the face of the torch making it so you have to sit up higher and more over the torch(or point the torch at a higher angler). You don't feel like you have any of those issue Zukie or did you just get used to them? Nice looking set up though!

I don't have any issues. The only thing blastshield seemed to do differently (that I can see) from the full sized delta marver is move the mounting bracket forward a little bit in order to move the marver back away from the face to compensate for the shorter barrel. It dosnt seem to sit up any higher than a normal delta marver.
The only little thing about my setup I don't like is that the back of the marver is a little too close to by blue valve for the centefire. I could move the marver up a bit, but I like to be able to see the end of my barrel. That's just a personal preference though.

How close is your inner blue knob to the backplate of the marver tho? Those marvers and shields get super hot so be careful.

I got about 11 mm between the knob and the back plate. This is a 12 mil blow tube.

Here is a pic of the delta next to my lynx, for size reference.

Daddy and.daughter^ I always wanted a snubby but now on kobuki which GTT says is as short as they will make it(but I've owned every GTT triple mix from lynx ( even Phoenix) to delta) and thought it would be nice to have a snubby mirage( my fave dual stage GTT). As far as marver goes, I got just enough room on front and back of my blastshield marver, and now don't burn without my shield!

If your putting it on a lathe go with a regular barrel mirage. In a previous post that i cant seem to find, i said a snub nose would be preferable on a lathe setup, with the mindest that being closer in, less torch to maneuver around/stand behind would be preferable.

my shop mate just got a snub nose and put it on the lathe with a carriage mount that uses the og base- after the first pull, the rubber feet were melted off the base, the gold knobs for rack and pinion adjustments were scorching hot, making angle adjustments difficult.

that 2 inches makes a hell of a difference in radiant heat effect.

^ Im not going to get into it but......

A longer barrel = more top end. The shorter tubes, let the gas break apart sooner after it leaves the barrel.

Once apon a time, a p.b.s. show about epcot jumping foutains... They had to run water through long tubes to align the molocules...

A red max = short tubes.... Even if it looks like a cc, it takes 2x as long to heat a glass tube.

If I ever find the series on youtube. I will link it.

The standard torch has more range. (its physics )

^well now im interested to know what it is your not going to get into?

all i meant by the 2" effecting heat was the how hot the base/angle knobs got, due to the whole body/base being closer in to the heat. didnt mean to infer anything about actual flame chemistry. and that is interesting.

You should have a lot of experience working on the equipment you are comparing or advising people to buy.
I don't believe the same physics can being applied between a single jet water port on a fountian and a triple mix fuel/ oxygen port on a gtt torch.

In saying that. I have a snub and a samurai with mirage mid, both brand new.
I did not notice any loss in function and actually feel the performance may have increased on the snub.
I would only advise against using it on a lathe for. The body and base can get hot, as Wilber said.
The snub is great for the bench since you have a shorter distance to reach over.
One thing for sure is a snub nose mirage kills both Carlisle cc, cc+, and nortels without a doubt.

Just sold my old mirage for a snub nose. I have medical issues and the shorter I have to reach the better. Love it.

on my bench i built a section that comes forward from the bench towards me, so the torch is about 6-8inches closer than it would be. I do sit though, so that setup might not work for a standing worker.
