I can't get Asian rod by the pound anymore. Abr will only sell 10 pieces or a case at a time and I only need 10 lb increments of rods and tubes.
I guess I can save up for cases there cheap enough. Just the demand changed also. I need that variety more then ever.
I only stock 2 cases of glass for years. One 24.5 mm heavy wall one mixed sized.

I make bubblers with 3 kinds of tube. It costs a lot to get all cases.

Seems like the matrix (ie industry side) is getting hip to the margins and tightening up accordingly for the bubble burst thats about to come.
I'll bet in 5 years raw materials will be super cheap compared to now.
I used to do all my work off 25X4 . 32x4 is a better all around size if you have a big enough torch.

Yeah I will have to save up for a case of 4 mm rod and 7 mm rod. I should get through the next order first I hope.

They used to cut it down for free too. I loved getting it cut in half.

I use 19 mm 9.5 mm and 24.5 for small bubblers. I have used 32 for the can but people liked the smaller sized ones better.

Having worked both ends of the spectrum, I can say that the quality of my work is much better when I have access to the right sizes of tubing and rod. So many tech/tricks depend on having right wall thickness or diameter. People who have the luxury of going into a store to hand pick the exact colors/sizes etc. Have a big advantage over someone trying to make a peice ,goblet or ornament out of gathered up 25 mm.
Last winter I ran out of rod and had to pull down 6mm from some old 50mm schott I was saving for paperweights. = inefficient/ghetto

i used to save my stubs from 25mm rod for this exact reason. when i started, i could not get my head around the fact that i buy 4 and 5mm basically just to throw away (peeling clear, handles etc) so i'd pull down my stubs. but, i was on oxycons and didn't constantly have to eyeball my reg to make sure i had enough gas to waste.
i realized pretty quick that to do this, i'd better be ok with lots of rod going almost directly from the case to the water jar.

Have you checked glasscraftinc? I've gotten some supplies from them and been very happy with the service, and they seem to have what you want by the pound.

Ust is far away from me. Shipping would be a fortune.
I missed the glasscraft sale on chinease cases of glass. I am wondering if china glass is the same as Asian glass. I mean it could be made in Japan? That is Asia and not China. I am a little scared to order a case of glass I have never tried out before also.
U.s.t . Is above Philly in p.a. For east coast distribution.
Last time I checked they are closer to southern ny than m.g.a. (like 3x closer )

But my plan is to get 2 cases at the end of the month. I will use the rod and it is like $100 a case with shipping.

A full container of Chinese color/clear just arrived at UST's warehouse so we are pretty well supplied. If you are willing to take a drive, you can load up down here and save all that shipping money. We do split up cases for pickup, but in the long run, you are much better off buying full cases.
