Sup all, been lurking for a couple weeks and figured I'd finally make an introduction thread. My girlfriend and I both took a couple classes locally in hot shops and decided we wanted to get into lampworking. We've purchased pretty much all the equipment we need to get started and are in the process of building the work area now. Just need to get the ventilation all set up and we'll be ready to start practicing.

We picked up a SKUTT scarab mini for our kiln and a Bethlehem Bravo as our torch. Also nabbed a homefill unit to hopefully save some money on oxygen costs.
We're mainly looking to make pipes and mini tubes and stuff like that. However, my girlfriend is interested in working with soft glass as well so I'm sure she'll be making all kinds of stuff. We're both pretty excited to get started. I'll post up some pics of the work space once we are up and running. But in the meantime, I just wanted to stop by and introduce myself. :peace:

Hi, welcome. Sounds like you guys are picking out some great equipment. I would highly recommend if your not already making your workspace for two torches. You mentioned our torch is a bravo wasn't sure if your sharing it or both got one. Even if you just have the one for now def make you spot big enough and calculate your exhaust for two. I built my studio last year just for me and really kicking myself now for not making it bigger. Anyway good luck with everything and have fun. You found a great site with ample information and righteous people that will help you along your way.

I second what Monte says about 2 or more torches and ventilation. We have a "his and hers" torches, "his and hers" oxygen concentrators, and now want a "his and hers" kiln.
My wife works soft glass so a second kiln will be needed sooner then later, sharing a kiln for boro and soft glass is a pain in the ass.

If you are pulling power wires do yourself a favor and run multiple circuits.;)

Good luck!

Hi everyone, I'm the 'girlfriend' @Banditt mentioned in the original post.🤘🏻I'm stoked to be learning the art of glass, can't wait for our first studio to be finished....soooo close....WHOOOHOO!

We've installed the ventilation and started our kiln for the first time last night successfully. Once our oxygen supplies actually come in we can start gettin' our flame on. I will say that out of everything we had to invest in the oxygen was the biggest frustration. Luckily however we've finally got that settled.

Look forward to learning, meeting & sharing with other amazing artists and creating.
