Hey glass family! The end of an era is upon us, and sadly glasspipes.org and glassaritsts.org will be shutting down soon (as well as all the bigreef.org sites). Most likely the end of this month.

If you have pics stored there that you don't have backed up, go save them! And if you have links in your galleries in your sigs, like I do, might want to change them.

J, thank you for 15 years of free hosting, personal url's, and a killer spot to send people to view our glass. You helped our industry immensely, and I cannot thank you enough for all you have done for us by providing these sites. Not only did you help us pave the way to being able to actually sell headdies and not just make them by providing a place that the public could see what glass is really all about, but also many of us couldn't afford to have our own websites built, and there were not the options for quick build sites out there like there are today for people who don't know how. Really I failboat words and I cannot sum up all you have done for us, but I do know one thing for sure:

What you did for the glass industry was priceless. Thank you. I am eternally grateful for all your hard work and time. <3

Is there a reason why he decided to bring these to end of life? Just curious if it was decreased traffic or just the cost to host the site.

The sites are dead, not being used, just costing him money and time. It wasn't a decision he came to lightly, nor was is based solely on money, but of course who wants to continue to pay for dead sites. I wouldn't.

I took the links down from the forum header. It was sad. :bummed: I will really miss gp/ga.org. It was the spot to be back in the day!

Really is the end of an era. It was the OG glass family social media. I learned a lot, and linked up with a lot of folks over the years there. Thanks to the host for the years of awesomeness!

thanks for the heads up.. um.. if J reads this, maybe a dvd backup of your profile is something you/he could sell? i'd be down to pay for that service.. though i'm not sure if my email is current with that site.. or if i have access to my account..

=( thank you indeed for the site. i'm sad to see it dwindle away.

I'm glad we all get a chance to save some files. Even if you don't remember your login info, you can copy the images off the public parts of your profile.

It's sad to see anything disappear from the Internet, we tend to think of these things are just always on, always there, "it's the cloud, man"... and there probably is some archive site with the whole thing cached... but that's not the same. Good luck to Justin, and thanks for everything!

My opinion on the site sucks!
I was placed in the top 10 web pages for a few years. I got sales from it and I got like 350 hits a day off it.
I used to post pics of my best work every Friday.

My name got deleted somehow when I came back from California the first time.
I made a new name but it was never as good. That page is still up but they won't let me sign in anymore.

It's too bad they are closing. I'm going to have to make new business cards. I used to list that page on them.

I used to be Nomad Glass now I'm Case1 on there. But it is all from my old studio.

Possibly but even then the account would still be there, not deleted. I don't think you can delete the accounts yourself, and I promise you, yours was not deleted by the admin. He has absolutely zero reason to do that, and it would go against what he was trying to accomplish.

I would say, you should have hit me up, but it's too late now. :bummed: It's really sad to see these sites go. I still haven't brought myself to change my sig.

I forget how they used to do it but I remember trying to get my name as close to the top whatever number of artists. It was incentive to kick ass. Like a constant flame off... off to save my old pics!

Thanks for the heads up. That was thee place to see a steady flow of bahmb work.

Maaaan, Eusheen is two places above bearclaw78 in the top 100 artists?! That's reason enough to shut it down right there j/k!!

My god, now I have to bite off of Instagram!

Seriously, I learned so much from those sites. Sorry to see them go, but I admit I haven't dropped in there in many, many months.

i will say....the days that i don't torch, but want to, i'd go to glasspipes/glassartists.org and browse. never failed to stoke the fires of inspiration.
i guess now i'll have to make do with youtube and facebook :(

oh wait....we have this site! it's too bad the files/pics could not be "backed up" or archived here or something.

I have spent countless hours browsing art on those sites. It's how I found out there was a glass blowing community. Definitely sad to see them go. I will never forget how excited I was the first time I made something nice enough to be featured.

sad. i heard about this yesterday and it was a bummer.

Misha, some of your early work blew my mind. I would troll that place and /fartpipes for hours when i was locked behind a security desk.

Yeah. I can't believe there was a time when I was on glassartists top 20, now that I have deleted that old work, I am not even near the top 100! oh well .. Things come and go. The end to a victorious past.

Justin is still trying to find a way to archive the sites somehow. I don't want to get into tech details, but if everyone can send good intentions out to make that happen that would be helpful.

Thanks, moch. :)

we held the number one spot for a good two three years on gp.org. Sites like gp and ga and this one is why everyone in our community know each other now in the present .. 15 years ago non of us knew each other.. It's sad that big named social media has drowned out such great communities.

Sad to hear, can't say I ever posted stuff there, but I spent many hours looking. in fact, it was one of the first places I went when I got back on the torch a couple years ago, it was pretty dead even then, so I understand why its closing. but still sad.

I hope everyone who's excited about this starts posting on the galleries so we don't have a repeat of this down the line. I made some pipes this week so I'm going to be posting them up soon! :D

Pictures on there are epic and should be curated. Most of the "heady" glass currently is nothing compared to what starving pipemakers where making a few years ago. The Bearclaw stuff alone is an amazing body of work and now Ryan (Bearclaw) has a significantly debilitating hand injury on top of lifes struggles.....blah blah blah blah go to glasspipes.org, and see for yourself. Instagram doesnt even compare to the value of that site. Daniel Trilli R.I.P. !

There isn't long to register a new account if you aren't already a member. April 1st is the deadline.
