I recently bought and used one and it hurt my chest i thing.. Almost like i strained my chest or muscles around my chest.. I went to the doctor he gave me some pills, there are pills for every damn thing... But anyway do any of you use a stump-sucker, or ever heard of this happening, i heard a story of Bob Snobgrass collapsing a lung blowing glass and wondered how he did it.. Also I've seen stump-sucker modified like Milon Townsends in the flow.. Just wondering if anyone uses one and is it modified cause i want to use mine but that Sh*t hurt..
thanks Robert Koch

They can be used just fine with boro, just hook up a small vaccuum instead of your lungs. Ive even heard people using a dust buster and rigging it to suck for you. Good luck, and careful with your lungs, I hear they're important.

i just built a vacuum cup. i used a small vacuum pump. it is connected to a compressed air tank used in reverse, to store vacuum. i then used a piece of copper tubing to go from the tank to a valve, then to the vacuum cup which is assembled in a small kiln. the cup is a small (2 inch id) graphite cup with several small holes drilled in the bottom to allow the vacuum to be applied to the hot gather. instead of a vacuum pump, you could use a the low side of a refridgerator compressor. the vacuum storage tank is important to give you the instantaneous flow you need. the whole thing did not cost that much money.

the heater is a standard cooking range element. also i through in a photo of my most recent project which is a lampworking furnace. it runs off natural gas an an oxygen concentrator powered by a national 3a torch. it holds a small crucible that holds about 1 to 1.5 pounds of glass. mark wilson

i am not in the studio, so i don't have good photos. here is a close up of the furnace fired up last week for the first time. i have yet to make a proper door for it. also here is a photo of the crucibles i use. they are 1/2 of a mortor and pestle. the smaller ones will be used for color. all soft glass.
