We have a semi-official marble swap we do here - not sure when it's due for this year, and if Marina is down to help. I'm sure we can get other people involved, I have plenty of free time these days, and I've always enjoyed the big marble swap here.

There's also been some pendant swaps.... don't think they should be in the same swap, but we can work them out maybe a month or so apart.

Misha's swamped right now, so maybe we can give her till the end of the month before getting the ball rolling on another swap, and in the mean time just be thinking about what you want to make.

Anyways, I'll get with Misha and the other mods an we'll set a date - the Marble Swap has always been a really big one, and I will make sure it happens this year. Would love to see something like that for pendants as well, maybe we can even do that one first, but not "right now" :P

Just a quick thought for you guys.
Hosting this and running a trade are alot of legwork and I decided to use a random number pairing generator to pair up participants in the 2 trades I currently have going for 2 reasons.
It keeps the shipping cost down as well as only one time in the mail. And it makes it so much easier for me to step back and let a program pick us in a non bias way.

P.s. I have not made a marble in a minute so I am in regardless

If I saw a post or new thread with "these are the official rules and guidelines", I'd definitely be interested in participating in a marble and/or pendant swap.... but I'd much prefer the plan to be spelled out before signing up. (How large/intricate a marble or pendant? Will swaps be arranged by quality or size, or random chance? How many can I submit, when are they due, etc, etc.) It's easy to say "yay! swap! i wanna play!" But I don't wanna be killin Misha. I'd rather leave the event organizin' to the mods.

I think it should be open. The purpose isn't to add a $1000 marble to your collection. The purpose is to share your work with others and have them share theirs with you. I personally just want whatever someone thinks they would like me to have. I know we're all at different levels. Some of us are gods among men and some of us only have a few weeks on the torch. I think anyone that wants to participate should be able to.

But I'll play by whatever rules.

Melting Pot 2016 Marble Exchange!

Please post in this thread if you want to be included. The list of participants will be updated as people sign up.

You will be added to the list after you send me a PM with your TMP name, real name, mailing address, email address (and optionally a phone # in case I have questions)

This is going to be DIFFERENT from many other exchanges and will ensure that everyone gets a marble back for each one they send in.

You get back the same number of marbles that you submit. They can all be different or similar to each other. It is up to you.

The minimum number of allowable marbles is 2 (two). The maximum will be determined by the number of participants who sign up. When the exchange is closed, the maximum number of allowable marbles will be 1/3 of the number of participants. If 30 people sign up then the maximum number of pendants you can send in will be 10. Any number of submissions between the minimum and the maximum are permissible. You will get the same number of marbles that you sent in but from different artists. The exchange will be canceled if less than 6 people sign up!

When your package of exchange marbles is sorted and your new goodies are ready to be sent to you I'll send you a notice of what return shipping will cost. Paypal is the easiest way to send $ for shipping but I'm open to checks by mail too if you don't care so much about immediate gratification. In the past most marbles fit safely into a small flat rate box but if you are lucky enough to get something that wouldn't survive transport in that container your shipping will be more (depending on the box required). Shipping cost will be just what I pay without any extra charges.

if 10 people sign up you can send 2-3 marbles

Checklist before sending package in:
• Send in two (2) to the maximum (see above) entries and you will receive the same number of marbles back
• Mail to Marina Bonaventura, 1002 Anns Court, Asheboro, NC 27205
• Tag each marble with your name AND your Melting Pot name, make sure it is attached somehow. If the maximum number of submissions occur I'll be juggling 300 marbles and I DON'T want to get them mixed up.
• Pendants must be postmarked by MAY 30, 2016 if you live in the US and postmarked by MAY 15, 2016 if you live anywhere but the US (that includes Canada!)

You don't have to commit to a specific # of pendants when you sign up. Just keep the number in line with the rules above and send them by the deadline. Shipping sooner is not a problem but if you want the maximum # of trades you will have to hope the maximum # of people sign up. The idea is to be able to get marbles from a variety of people with minimum fuss and bother and to be sure that you will get back goodies for what you send out. This format has worked well for me before. It's quite a task on the hosting end!

When you make a marble you plan to exchange go ahead and post a picture in this thread. You aren't spoiling anyone's surprise because you won't know who among the other artists will be the recipient. Plus it will encourage others to participate.

No, there's a reason. Burn out, and logistics, and most people who will participate in one probably wont participate in the other, it waters down the whole situation.

My only concern with getting too many swaps too close together is that people will burn out, and if not that, it's hard to participate and keep them all straight for those who have other things to do besides lurk on this forum all day. Plus, if we do everything now, what's there to do the rest of the year?

I know, people are excited - but if we're going to have semi-official swaps going on, hosted by the staff and such, I think we should space them out and give plenty of notice.

15 days is a hard dead line to beat for anyone who may not even see this thread for a week.
