Not sure this is the right place to post but was trying to find what magazines are good to subscribe to.. I see there is "glassline" which is a little confusing on their price,,,, $39 us currency for first class which gives you entry to digital back issues and $28 us currency for fourth class where you cannot enter the back issues but I am Canadian and its $46 us currency , but for the love of me I don't understand the big difference as its sent digitally... go figure..... I am looking for guidance for different mags that are out there (preferably in paper form) that everyone enjoys and are good info. I would even consider second hand mags in good shape... Trying to learn everything I can on Boro and I'm sure the more info I read that its always better as there are not to many people using torches where I live so I have to learn by el selfo.. any info would help...Ty

Glassline has not been printing their magazines, but has failed ot change their website still to reflect that issue.
Flow and Hotbreath are both fantastic!

Yeah. I hate that Glass Line isn't being actually published any more. I get it though. Prices keep going up. As someone who is in that industry I know printing magazines isn't cheap. There are ways around it, especially with what they are doing digitally these days. I don't know his circulation numbers so I don't know if that would be a cost-effective choice.
I've thought a couple times about talking to Jim and seeing if he would sell the magazine to me. I don't know if he has any interest in doing that, but it's something I may explore sometime down the road.

Maybe if he does, Cosmo, you will allow people who have volunteered help to give you a hand. :bangHead:

You've volunteered as well? Magazine publishing is what I did for many, many years. I've offered to assist, but I get that he may want to keep control of things to himself.
I had flirted with the idea of starting my own magazine, but there was too much work involved for what is really a niche market.

So many people have offered him help. I don't understand why he hasn't taken care of it, or let someone who knows how do it for him. I tried really hard to help him promote and turn things around, but without fixing that shipping issue I can't help him anymore. It's too confusing for new subscribers.

It needs a fresh start. New design, new web site, new management, etc. I don't know Jim personally, but I know how hard it is to do what he's doing. But it's time for a facelift for the magazine I think.
Of course, what I think really doesn't matter in this instance. As long as he's doing what he wants with his magazine I guess that's all that matters.
Don't want it to come off like I'm bashing Jim. I love Glass Line. It's the only magazine I subscribe to. I just want the paper version back, however that happens.

I love the quarterly glass porn. What am I to do if they stop making new ones. Pages are all stuck together on my old ones. Ahhhhhh!

I bought 5 years' worth of THE FLOW magazine, second hand, for full (us) sticker price and I totally don't regret it. A lot of info for the price. You can get them all online too for $9 per print issue or $7 for digital. There's at least one boro tutorial per issue and there's all kinds of cool history and stories and interviews and stuff. Check them out www.TheFlowMagazine.com you won't be disappointed.

I liked that Glass Line and Flow didn't always show up at the same time.
Cosmo, if you start up a new magazine, I'll sign up, I miss having both. But I prefer paper over digital for a bunch o' reasons.
FWIW, I still get The Flow (and actually need to re-up this week when I get paid)

I don't know. There is a lot of legwork behind it. I actually have the business plan all laid out, but it's on the back burner for now. Honestly to put out a decent magazine it would require a constant 1500-2000 subscribers to make it worth doing. It would be a full-time job for me. Not that that would be a bad thing. Just not a move I'm in the position to make right now.

Just a little update...
This is something I'm potentially going forward with. No timeline set up at the moment. Still in the planning stages. But have been doing some research and after figuring costs it looks like it's something I can do and not go broke doing it.
Will keep you posted as things progress.

Boxfan goes over a little of what it is like running a mag in his wyzguy podcast interview. It's worth a listen. You could probably even pick his brain a little.
