Well one and all!

I would like to announce that i quit my lousy freaking, dead ended, salary caped, no-good, over-stressed job. I have not felt this happy for months. It was the type of job where no matter what you did, it was wrong, or you had no idea what you were talking about. I got reprimanded for things i did right. I got bitched at when i gave an estimated date of completion and finished two days early. No longer will i take that abuse from that job. If i was so worthless to them while i was there, i'd love to see how stuff is handled today when there's nobody there to run my department. BWaahahahahahaha.

I'm sure a lot of you have had jobs where you just loath coming in every single freaking day to some place where you carry a huge amount of weight but somehow it gets overlooked, or your boss takes all the credit while they do not know even what it is their talking about.

I just wanted to state that i am now free, and plan on spending a lot more time behind the torch. Thanks to all of you where an inspiration to this. I'm not going full gung-ho into glass just yet, but it will get there over the next few months.

So, if anybody does not mind sharing, i'd love to hear fantastic stories where you quit in spectacular way.

right on moch,

wish i could do that!

you can too!

it wasn't that hard. I guess it is a bit easier for people who are in the "creative computer industry" you know, people who build web pages, or design graphics. because i can turn around and get another job in two weeks. The demand in a metropolitan area is pretty high. I also did myself the favor and saved about two months of bills just in case.

the job i just quit was not paying me what the work was worth, as jobs seldom do. I did the math on what i would make if i got the minimum for free lance work, and then factored in time between jobs... it came out that if i only worked for ten of the twelve months of the year (ie 8 weeks off) then i would still be making eight grand more NET then i would GROSS at the current job. A little less by the time i factor in insurance.

So what does this teach me?

It sometimes pays to be a quitter!

I quit my job working at a high school after I caught heat for sleeping with one of the students. I told the vice principle (my boss) that she could shove it up her ROB hole (she has a tatoo on her ass that says R B with a little... *... in the center) and didnt come back the next day. 6 months later they sent me my check in the mail.

assholes.

I worked @ longs drugs and they stuck me on register 1(the one that sees EVERyBODY) i think for my boyish good looks (ha ha) and i was so ripped that everybody was my friend. So.......I went home on my lunch break and never came back. I recorded the dead kennedy's song "Take this job and shove it" on my answering machine, and waited for them to call. And they did, ha ha. The stupididty of being young, gotta love it.

my new job is great, well now that i have access to the timecard/HR database, muha ha ha...

Well I tried to get a job once (since I've been blowing glass full time for the last 9 yrs...) and I forgot some of the info they told me to bring to the second interview as well as I came 2 days late.

I kept blowing glass :lol

i feel like quiting my job sometimes, but instead i just cuss everybody and tell them to kiss my ass. i work at UPS and the union is so big that you can get away with anything. there are people that have been fired 9-10 times but they always get their job back. i work 20 hours a week, get paid more than double minimum wage, get FREE insurance for the whole fam, and will never have to piss in a cup. it goes perfect with glass blowing.

My wife worked at a really stressful job in sales. Everyone who worked there was pissed off due to the high pressure job.
She decided that Friday was her last day.. She went to the local Stop and Shop and had a sheet cake made. That said “ I quit”…

She brought it in and put it on her boss’s desk. Everyone had a good laugh and a piece of cake. She said for the first time in 2 years everyone was smiling at work.
She left on a good note..

I can not wait for the day I can walk out of my office job, and go sit behind my torch forever. Just gotta accumulate every piece of gear I need and then BAM! Peace bitches, I don't work for you no mo.

^¥^ you dont need a bunch or gear before you quit your job. You need people lined up to buy your stuff. Cause without that there ain no income. And i would suggest a savings, at least a small nest egg to fall back on while starting up. I went full time on the torch this year. Stopped awnsering the phone for my other business.

As everyone knowes, glass is production driven, no makey glass no makey money.

Sounds like it was time to go, Moch. Look on the bright side. You now have time to go Occupy Wall Street or whatever it is in your area! :)

i have never straight up quit a job. I have ALWAYS put in my 2 weeks notice even if sometimes they only need you for another day or two once they find out. But i cant bear to burn bridges like that, because im the kind of person who believes that connections and networking are ever useful and I very well could unintentionally or intentionally cross paths with people i have worked with again in my life and either be of a service to them, need something from them, etc. I love connects and hookups no matter what the product or service, and i guess im just a nice guy!

We should get Moch in here to do a "Quit My Job 5 Years Ago" retrospective. Actually, history could be repeating itself?

I started blowing glass as my only income after 4 months on the torch. I was and am not all that great. I had/have some solid products and went to every headshop for three cities to get my paper. Fuck a job. Now I am making good money (close to a g a week) and if I can learn to work an 8 hour day. I will simply be ballin'. You dont have to be great to be independent, just a hustler. Why make someone else rich when you can make yourself rich. The crazy part is that walmart considers glassblowing an inferior career. little did they know.....

Yah but why not accumulate all the gear I want while someone is giving me a pay check every week. Nothing wrong with having the studio of your dreams to work out of, after all if it is going to be your money maker, having all the proper tools makes work easier and faster.
