Two torching seats just opened up for the John Kobuki Class at The Glass Park in Fort Wayne, IN on September 19-20. If you, or anyone you know, may be interested please get in touch with Eran Park at 260-579-3201 ASAP
Some useful info from John Kobuki
"Marble class Description": This two day class will explore the "Compression" technique used to make flowers and other deeply encased designs utilizing solid rods of borosilicate glass. There will be two marble demonstrations each day, with hands on instruction with the students behind the torch after each demo. You will learn some basic patterns for flowers and jellyfish along with color blending and tooling tricks for more interesting petals and leaves. You will learn all about core heat and flame management along with the basic fundamentals of marble making. We will explore the reason why the technique is a "Compression" and not an "implosion" and what constitutes an "original design".
Materials list. Material list: per student for 2 days all borosilicate rod preferably Simax (5' rods) Clear (.5) - 18mm or 20mm 1 - 10mm 2 - 6mm or 8mm 4 - 4mm"
*****THE GLASS PARK WILL PROVIDE ALL RAW GLASS FOR THE STUDENTS TO USE DURING THE CLASS. ******

Ok guys the torching spots are filled, I knew it wouldn't take long, thanks for the support. Glad you managed to get in on the class Ray, I'll look forward to meeting you next week. It was actually Eran Park that you talked to on the phone. He runs the shop I work in, and is the one that put the class together with John.

Either way you post it right at the best possible moment..I was trying to arrange a lesson with a TMP Member..and they couldn't..so the timing was perfect.
Very much looking forward to this. Bet I don't sleep for the next week :)

Thanks man, I'm way excited. It dropped in my lap like it was meant to be :D
Maybe theres a reason I haven't been able to find a job yet! (Besides being old and burnt out). :)
I'm driving 9 hours to get there
turned out to be about 12 hours each way...and certainly worth every second of travel and every dollar of costs.
Hell yeah!I did 9 this weekend to sell a kiln lol so cool you are getting to go!!!!Sure it will be a blast!!
Ok. This class with the world renowned Artist John Kobuki was phenomenal. The amount of knowledge and info from John and others was so great, that there is no chance that my game doesn't go up.
Watching John work was a thing of beauty. When he did his last demo, with the face, it really was so beautyful and a bunch of things kind of clicked together and it brought a tear to my eye.
Not only was John great, but the room was filled with an over abundance of skills and artistic talent. I was way out of my depth here and had trouble with my glass..So nervous..Couldn't concentrate on actually melting etc.
The The Glass Park (https://www.facebook.com/The-Glass-Park-225385240985337/). were great. They went way out of their way to make sure everyone had what they needed. John Kobuki even went out of his way to hook up my hoses and everything and get me going.
The whole trip was one that I certainly will remember for the rest of my life.
Now I have to unbox my concentrators and setup them on my oxy side. John and another great artist that was there, schooled me on using the blue knobs (or more correctly stopped me from not using). Shout out to both of them...my thanks!!!
Now that I'm home and will correct my pressues and such , I hope to put the new knowledge to use.
Haha yup keep the blue cracked,I like using just the blue and no green,it gets tight!!

Yes.. It was nice meeting you and everyone else.
I'm still trying to recover from the drive lag. Got my torch back on the bench
but haven't made enough room to add 2 more concentrators.
Tomorrow I will finish adding in the 2 and test out the bench etc at the correct propane pressure.
Here's a picture of the marble from John's fourth demo.
It was great watching him make it.
