Just wondering if anyone works in the cold! for right now I'm starting out in an unheated single garage.. should I take any extra steps with the glass when wanting to work it / store it? don't have a kiln yet... going to work small things and anneal the good stuff at the university here. also wondering if theres any friendly canadians on this forum! going to be taking a drive to BC in tbe next month here. I'm located in Saskatoon.

Fiber blanket works out pretty dam good for cooling down glass,I would use Vermiculite long time ago and keep that hot in my oven in my house or hot plate in shop. The fiber blanket make no mess so that is nice.
As far as annealing it after you are done that will work.I do the a lot to save $ on power bill now that I run a large kiln.Even my 2 piece bubbles can go right on the bench and get annealed after ,nothing crazy just simple ones.If I leave a thick inside out spoon on the bench it will take some time to crack if it is going to.I think of it like time vs. stress. If I can get them for sure in the oven the next day I got no problems. If they sit on my bench for a few days and they will have cracks.I don't do that a lot but have been pretty lucky cooling things that should go in the kiln.
The cold sucks,I worked in the snow all my glass life until last year.Propane heater is my friend.Feet are my weak link, tried about every way I have ever herd of to heat the shop.Wood stove was bad ass winter but a really bad idea if you work in a trailer. When heating your glass shop be sure to make sure you are safe looking back I am insane,I would lock my self in shop with no fan all the time and blow to it got warm in there then turn on the fans.Sure I could go on all day about working glass in freezing cold but electric socks from wal mart were the shit haha they were for ice fishing but the were a real treat on very cold days.
