View Full Version : Glass scrap/waste disposal - residential

I'm curious about how everyone handles their glass scrap/waste/trash that lives in a residential setting.

In a commercial environment it is easy:
- Throw glass scrap in a metal bin (make sure it is for glass only to prevent fire)
- Once a large amount accumulates (and it is cool) dump the bin in a larger metal dumpster

In my residential area I have roadside trash pickup in large plastic containers. The truck lifts the containers and shakes them while upside down.
I am figuring smaller amounts of cooled down glass, double bagged, then placed in with the other household trash...
Avoiding loose scraps of glass escaping the trash can is what I'm trying to figure out.

For a residential setting what have you all come up with? What is your system?

In all seriousness empty pet food bags work well for disposing of glass trash.
Throwing glass away in your roadside trashcan is fine, but take measures to be sure you're not going to poke the garbage man

Matte'

I box it up in a cardboard box, tape it up, toss it out.

go one step further, box it up nice, put a note on it that says "Apple Products...free to good home" and it'll be gone right quick.

Thanks for the suggestions!

Looks like I'll:
1) Crush it down
2) Bag it
3) Box it

I keep all my glass trash in a water bucket. And just dump the bucket in the dumpster outside. No boxes for me because the water would soak the cardboard rendering it useless, plus the trash truck is just going to smash everything anyways.

I get all the trash out with a local trash pick up company. As simple as that :D This is the system I follow.
