Matt will be undergoing surgery tomorrow, and I’d like to ask everyone to say a prayer, send positive vibes, or whatever you’re into, to help them through this situation.

Matt, we love ya bro, and there’s a lot of people pulling for you. Keep the faith, and we wish you a speedy recovery. You know you guys have an extended family here, so don’t hesitate to ask if you need anything.

Good luck, God bless, and please keep us posted on your progress :)

Everything is well. Matt still hasn't needed blood yet, and the bleeding seems to be slowing. :D He does have a low grade fever so that sucks, but for now I think it's ok. He's feeling ok, not in too much pain, but they've got him on good meds.

I'll let you know what happens as I can. They actually have a computer here for me to use, they've got him in the VIP suite. :lol Pretty kick ass room with a KILLER view of the entire city, Mt Hood, and sunsets. :D Not such a bad place to get stuck in for awhile. the nurses have all been great so far, too.

No transfusions still, and I think he may be out of the woods on that. It was a little scary for awhile, there was talk of rushing him back to surgery again, but they didn't have to. :)

He's doing pretty well, in lots of pain, not feeling well, but that's to be expected. His mom is there right now so I can hang out with the kids and dogs for awhile.

Hi everyone. I'm going to keep this short because its not to comfy sitting in this chair but all of your positive energy pulled me through this I just know it and I cannot thank you guys/gals enough. The pain is getting better but I'm pretty damn sore. My nausia has calmed down so I should be able to actually get some sleep tonight. My arm doesn't seem to have lost much mobility so I soon as I am healed I should be able to continue blowing glass, but I have already come to the conclusion that my hand blown glass is going to be some what limited because I don't want to have this thing grow back in a year. hopefully by the time I am done healing I will be able to have a lathe sitting in my shop.

Thank you all so much i will see you soon!

Hey Matt, I don't know if it's the pain meds that are making you nauseas, but if it is, your doc can give you something to stop it. I know it's just another med, but it beats feeling sick and puking all the time.

I'm glad you came through safe and hope you heal quickly!

Very glad you are doing so good.

You get ready to setup that lathe you give me a call. Worked around lathes most of my life.... not glass lathes but the setup/leveling/alignment is the same.

BTW, largest lathe I ever saw was in Japan back in '66. They had a section of tail shaft (the shaft that connects to the propeller) chucked up and spinning about 400 rpm. Little Japanese man sitting in a seat at a control console controlling it all. The shaft was a little over 1 meter in dia. and 10 meters long; chips comming off were thick as a pencil. That's 40 inches by 33 ft long for you non-metric folks.

Take care my friend, PJ

Quick catch up...I’m tired and glad I get to get in my own bed and actually get some rest tonight.

Matt is doing really well!!! He's off the IV's, on to oral pain meds, still on anti-nausea meds and probably will be for awhile as he easily gets very sick from meds.

He's walking around, did two laps around the halls earlier! Fever gone, pain under control, and they are giving him an ambien to sleep tonight so he should be even better tomorrow. I'll have to bring him some good food now that he's eating better. :D

I'm really proud of him, he's done so well. Way better then anyone expected, that's for sure!! Still no word on when they will let him go home, but I don't think he's going to have to stay the expected 7-10 days! :D

Ok bed calls me!! Night everyone!

That's my man! Always thinking like me... where is Howard ? There is this daily voice missing in my head lol.

I feel pretty good today pain is down a little but getting a good nights rest was a big help . A big hug to my wife friends and family that came and visited me. I should be getting out of here tomorrow or the next day, I just have to get this body of mine functioning properly. As far as blowing glass though it's going to be while heheh. the good news is I have almost full movement of my right arm without too much pain. They again removed a lot of muscle tissue from my back so that is what is going to hold me back to working my daily shift. If all goes well I should be somewhat normal in a month or two. I am quite pain tolerant and I will get through this as quickly as my body allows me too.

Thank you all again your support has helped me and my family more than you could ever realize!!

Small set back (I hope) Matt's blood pressure has gone way up. No fever, they aren't sure why, but they can't get an IV in him to get meds in him. So I think he's going to end up having to stay longer while they get their act together.

I have to work some today then I'll go down and see him. His mom is down there now, she's a nurse, so she's going to get them on it.

PyroChixRock
06-30-2006, 05:36 PM
Actually, he had a very large hemangioma tumor partially removed...they'd never be able to get it all. It was a very very dangerous surgery because it’s just a nest of blood vessels, but he did better then any best case scenario we were given. We'll see how it goes from here, he may end up in another surgery soon, but I really hope not. They had to take out more of his muscle, and he doesn't have very much on the side as it is. He's lost a lot of strength in his right arm, and I guess could lose more if they have to take more. We won't know for awhile, but it looks positive today.

Here is a update from me for a change. Today I feel good I woke up kind of numb, I think I took that muscle relaxer kind of late. :D The extension of my arm still sucks I throw a ball like a stereo-typical girl and there is no way I could blow glass I can barely can lift a gallon of milk without wincing is pain. I have decided maybe I will learn to sleep standing up, I have found that to be the least painful position. Every time I see some cool shit on the board or just look at my lonely torch sitting out there in the dark, I start to jones so hard to just blow a little bead or something, but I know inside I need to heal more still. Id say I'll start conditioning myself to get back on the torch in a month or two but for now I am just doing sketches. I see you guys around and thank you all very much!
