Just cook the dirt into the glass and tell people it's a new tech!

Probably cut them in half then use a bucket full of diluted glass cleaner and a good sized bottle brush.

i wouldnt bother with the dishwasher. personally i think i would get a big funnel... and a five gallon bucket. put one end in the bucket. funnel the other. dump windex through. rinse one time. done.

worst case get a long dowel and a microfiber rod. just push it through while damp.

windex and paper towel, alcohol if theres tape or other random shit stuck on. after cleaning inside and out i rinse with water. just cleaning up a bunch of glass i had left around my dusty shop. but color that is porous may be beyond help. Ive got a pound of disco that might be ruined, going to soak that and blast it with water. best of luck

The dishwasher will work good for rods, but i don't think it would work well for tubing (at least my dishwasher...) I usually put lots of glass in the tub, spray with hot water with the shower, and then after rinsing it really good that way, I fill the tub with water, lift out and scrub/dry and then put on a towel...done. It depends on how clean you are trying to get the glass, i suppose.

Mine's been sitting for a while as well. I use glass cleaner and a lint free cloth, or old t-shirt. Just clean it as you use it. No need to clean 100 tubes at once if you're only going to use 2.

One tablespoon Borax to 16 Ounces warm D.I. water.

A rope with a loop on one end and a micro-fiber towel ( anything that doesn't leave lint actually) for the insides, the outside should dry just fine.

The DI water has less minerals and will rinse away just fine, tap water has too much crap in it.

Di = distilled?

Di = distilled?

Usually means deionized in the context of water. Typically, it refers to distilled water that is taken one step further and run through a deionizing block.

I'm not sure there is really a difference here, but I know it's needed for certain applications where you want to build up your water conditions from as neutral as you can, like for a specialized aquarium or a chemistry lab.

I usually won't clean my glass until right before I use it. I'll always and only use Isopropyl alcohol to clean my glass right before I use it. Maybe wipe it down first with some cloth if it's really dusty. The insides of tubes are a little trickier.. I'll use a wooden dowel (or a broomstick handle) and wrap some cloth or paper towel then plunge it though the tube. Don't use a glass rod because it will scrape up the inside of your tubes.

i know a lot of the "bead ladies" over on Lampwork Etc use the dishwasher when dealing with a large qty of dirty color rods. clear too now that i think about it. probably not practical for full length tubing or clear rod, but standard 20" color fits horizontally in the top and bottom racks in the dishwasher quite nicely.

but for the most part i do what Muph does, although i use denatured alcohol. wipe down before use, and most of my clear (for lenses and the like) i peel down anyway, so wiping it down first isn't a necessity.

You could make something like a bore snake if you have a lot to do, it's a tool for cleaning gun barrels, basically a small weight on a thin cord with a thicker micro fiber towel section at the end. You drop the weight through the tube then pull the cord to yank the towel through.

If you have an extra one you can pretty easily remove the copper brushes, a lot of people do that to use them for cleaning airguns.

When I have tubes that are filled with mouse shit I blast the outside with windex and wipe it down with about 3 paper towels. Then shoot a bunch of windex down one dude and roll it around to get it good and soaked. Take your gross paper towels from earlier and ball them up. Add another around the outside if you need to. Just depends on how big the tube is. Anyway stuff that ball in the end you shot a bunch of windex down and take a 12x7 and push the paper ball down and through. Usually takes a couple pass throughs if it's real dirty. You can use a tshirt rag and rubbing alcohol also..
