Recently noticed my gentec hand torch leaking propane. The pic shows the flame burning after I turn it off. I can get it to turn off but I have to CRANK the knob down....way beyond normal leverage. Anyone know how to fix?

Try cleaning out the valve on the torch.

A common problem with those cheap torches. I took mine and torqued it hard about 50 times to pressure form the seating surfaces. ( I know this is very wrong) It did work and solved the problem. Its a cheap ass $100 torch anyway, machined to generous tolerance so they can be made fast.

I have not held a high opinion of the mini torches, the national is a big old brute but is reliable. I ordered a Lynx hand torch I hope to see before my funeral.

Haha at the GTT comment snoop, I placed an order for a lynx hand torch almost two and a half years ago. I might call em someday to see if they have any on deck this year. Last summer it was "by September"!

I'm hoping the new Beth hand torches are good enough. I'm going to buy both but I'm keeping my name on the GTT list.

Common problem with torches in general, the valves fail over time.. pro tip: the valves last longer when not ran at high pressures for the torch. It's rated for like 7psi or something and people y them with deltas and mirage and wonder why they get fucked up.

How does psi mess up a needle valve? I thought the valve either seats or not...? There are no diaphragms or anything of the sort...

It's the propane valve that is leaking, not oxy. Only using 5 psi

I'm going to take a look at it tonight. Just started blowing glass over the wknd and didn't feel like messing with it. Thanks to all who have responded so far.

I've used a GTT hand torch before, obviously very nice....but no way I'm wasting effort on that waiting list:)

aREa541 might be able to get you gentec parts. If you can't find a replacement valve you could install a needle valve inline to your torch and just shut it off there.
