A lawsuit filed on Friday accuses the renowned Washington glass artist Dale Chihuly of passing off the work of another man as his own for 15 years.

The suit, filed by the lawyers of Michael Moi in King County Superior Court and the U.S. District Court for Western Washington, claims the prolific decorator of botanical gardens has been involved in a “myriad of clandestine painting sessions” with Moi, but has never compensated him or given him credit for his efforts, despite the artist’s promises otherwise.

Doesn't this happen every year or so?

meh. honestly all of Dale's work is blech to me. it all looks like psychedelic vomit. brightly colored tube, sometimes pressed in an optic mold stretched and twisted. then put together into some sort of thing.
not for me.
that being said, if i could make that kind of money doing that type of work, i'd jump on it.

I thought Chihuly sued his former employees every now and then, not the other way around.

I'm not fond of the curly-que things or the spun out flowers, but I do like his older vases.

oh yes, the vases are beautiful. coincidentally aren't those also the items he himself made, w/o the team?

the newer installations just look like psychedelic vomit imho. not to say that there isn't a ton of work that goes into them. they're just not my cup of tea.

There was a Chihuly exhibit at the art museum here in Reno many years ago. There was some really cool work there and it was an awesome show. Since he landed Vegas I don't care much for the work i have seen. I appreciate it as installation art but I don't like most of it. When an artist puts his name on the work but dozens of people did all the work i lose interest quickly.

I appreciate him. He has drawn a lot of attention to the idea of American contemporary art glass. While driving up value. I think losing his eye made it hard to do the actual gaffing. But hot glass is mostly always a team sport :-)

Yep everyone used to bash him because of his team.

Teams can be super legit .
