i find that with the W+R i really like the look of alternating the direction of the rake. so go down first. then right next to it swipe up. then down again. and more is better. make them tight together. gives more little details.
Billyjay

Alright cool ill give that a try tonight
Billyjay
11-10-2017, 06:32 AM
The one on the left I tried alternating directions when I raked it it's a lot harder to rake away from yourself guess i had it to hot and pulled it out some 91539
Shaping looks good.
Random patterns are cool IMO
If you want uniform, u could rake one way leaving enough space for rakes in between, then switch directions, and rake the opposite. Giving you the chance to rake toward yourself the whole time

Yes work on size consistency. Use a ruler. Try keeping your vertical lines straight to. Practice spinning with your hands evenly.

Nice. You might want to stick to blue because it costs less and easier to use. But you handled the red nicely.

blue one on the end looks best due to the most details, take some time to work on your spoon shape as well.

It's Asian striking red it's cost the same as the blue the blues is a lot easier to coil onto a blank though and I probably should slow down some it was taking me like and hour at first to make one now it's like 30 min I probably shouldn't be worried about speed yet

Very nice. Doesn’t it take a long time to strike that color?

It's the first time I've used it but it seemed pretty easy it was mostly red by the time I was done working it except in the middle I left it in the kiln on 1075 for 45 minutes or so and it was all red I got it from mountain glass don't know if that matters there a 50% off sale all month on Asian glass

Most of it was red by the time I was done working except a little bit in the middle than ya 1075 for 45 min you might be able to do it shorter I just didn't look at it till 45 min and ya I just need to keep practicing I'm starting to have a lot of spoons I should go try to sell them I don't feel like there good enough yet but I see worse stuff in headshops all the time

bro. bring them to a shop thats kinda far from your house.... this way if you "embarrass" yourself it doesnt matter going fwd. also just sell them stupid cheap. if it smokes... someone will buy it for a couple bucks anyway.
i saved ALL of my crap first spoons and chillys for concerts. sell them for 5 bucks in the lot. pays your beer tab at the show. plus if we are going somewhere. bring the piece. smoke it till ur done. throw it out if you cant bring it with you.

Nice looking tools! Most reamers are octagon shaped, I’m interested to hear how your round ones perform.
Billyjay
01-14-2018, 01:24 PM
Thanks i wanted to try to make an octagonal one but the only way I could think of doing it was with my dremel I didn't have enough faith in myself to try if these don't work out I'll try to modify them I think they will be fine I've seen some round ones

Really pretty, those chuggers look nice! Maybe a little top heavy? I would flatten out the base a bit more for stability but I’d be proud of those regardless. Well done Billy!

Thanks a lot buddy they actually stand up well I do wanna get a squatter bubble on the bottom i think it would look better ima try next time
I can see the devit on the bottom of your can, you need to go back and melt that out, you may have to go back to your marer pad several times on each eice, but you cant leave that, its literally stress in your glass, good job, keep working

Can you point out exactly where? I looked over the pic and didn't see anything.
And maybe I'm wrong but I thought by definition, devit can't be polished out. I thought devit was actual phase separation or something on a chemical level that made the glass incompatible.
Seems like everyone refers to devit as what I consider surface scuzz. Or am I backwards?...:/
But yeah.
I didn't see any scuzz or weird looking spots to polish. Please point those out if possible
Good looking pieces keep up the good work

Ya I notice that when that when I was looking at it I get going and miss a step sometimes I need to pay attention better it's sitting next to the kiln waiting to be fixed

I think he ment the tool marks on the bottom of the can I wasn't sure if you call that a devit idk all the lingo lol
OK.
I see the tool marks.
Agreed they should be cleaned up.
But I don't think tool marks are called devit or referred to as devitrification.
According to Wikipedia devitrification is crystalization on the surface or within the glass.
Caused by fluctuations in heat
Maybe it is a matter of opinion...?
I was thinking since the tool marks are basically clear, that the devit definition didn't apply. But I could see how it might work either way.
the one with the amber purple neck has devit in the bottom of the can where he flattened it
