Do you guys do anything weird in glass that you know is weird, but isn't hurting anything so you keep doing it?

I have a weird one; no one has ever noticed me doing it. When I stick two things in the flame, my hands spin in opposite directions from each other until the moment the two things connect and then my hands seamlessly line up. I don't really have a reason for doing this but no need to stop either haha.

What weird thing do you do?

Im OCD, i take a punty off , have to heat it, marver a little taper on it and then set it down and make it ready to go right away.

Cant stand any non flame polished ends or ends with crap on them.

you would die if you saw my bench...tons of stringy stringer ends, eye pokers, and broken rod ends! I guess thats the one of the weird thing i do. I throw tools and glass when I'm done w them, in the general direction they need to go. I tend to worry about the piece more than breaking off a pc of scrap rod , or cleaning up a stringer end.

I'm pretty obsessive about cleaning the end of the blo- tube that goes in my mouth tho. I usually wipe w alcohol, and or flame polish. I got in a habit of cleaning it off with my shirt for awhile with just turned into me jabbing myself in the stomach with the blo tube end a few times every few minutes. I stopped for the most part but i still catch myself doing it sometimes.

My bench is not spotless but there are no big fish hooks, angel hair glass sperms and other loose trash.

Iv hurt myself enough times on that stuff to just be more careful now, use the tink bucket a lot.

I don't get how people have benches with stringer/bubble trash just laying about. It only took me one time digging stringer pieces out of my hand to realize there is a better way. I keep a large metal garbage can and water bucket that all the scary bits go strait into so I don't have to hurt myself sweeping them off the bench. The best way obviously is not to make those bits in the first place, but sometimes the piece at hand takes priority over proper technique. I cringe when I see lampworkers pulling hair fine stringers over and over that are just trash and leaving them on their bench.

I have a habit of polishing all my blowtubes way before I need them and never snapping rod or tube by hand. I have heard horror stories of people with major injuries after snapping 25mm tube, I've even seen it happen with 12mm. After hearing that, anything I can't snap with milli nippers gets flame cut. My hands are my most important tool and saving a few seconds is not worth it.

When I'm snapping by hand, I wrap the glass in a big sheet of leather (that used to be an apron).

My bench is near spotless at all times. I do a lot of stringer work so there is often an ends pile til the job I'm doing is over and then it's spotless again.

If the stereo is on in the studio, some times I'll find myself dancing... makes it tricky for flame working

I find EDM to be great for point pulling sessions
