I am here in portland and do various art festivals and art markets. Most of the time I have voltage to hook up to. However, I do a few art festivals that are more grass roots and less refined. Does anyone have an contraptions they have built that are portable (i.e. batteries) that they can plug lights in to?

my second question is what is the difference between a disc flip and an enclamo?

encalmo refers to fusing two sections of glass together. a disc flip is atechnique where you draw on hte surface of a section and then by whatever means, flip it so that when you inlay it onto a peice the colour is inside out.

You could get led lights that run off a small battery. Mount them on a track. From what i hear they put out alot of light.

How much cash ya got? its pritty simple to set up several systems to do this....

I would get a decent sized solar pannel, a deep cycle batter, and a volt meter, a hard case etc...

there are plenty of LED systems and pritty much any lighting you need wtih 12 volt... systems...

so for say around 500 bucks you should be able to run quiet a bit of lighting with out worrying about a cord to any thing....

just my idea...

yeah but the genarators typicall run at ridiculous RPM's making them so loud....

What about an inverter to a car battery you can run a string of lights and a couple halogens.

I like coleman propane laterns too...

yeah I thought that was the difference between an enclamo and disc flip, but I read a few threads and a few of them described a disc flip that was actually an enclamo. I was worried I had it wrong, especially since I am always explaining that blah blah blah and this is an enclamo piece.

I rock the coleman lamps occassionally but they tend to brighten a whole area and not focus the light specifically on my work. They give off more glare than I would like, just my opinion thats why I was asking about a battery runned system. okay so whats an inverter?

The lights in my house run off a 12 volt RV battery. They are marine lamps (off a boat) so 12 volt.

They look same as a regular power saving flourescant with the double bend in. Same size, same amount of light comes out of it; 15 watt.

Solar panel recharges the battery during the day, we get 950 watts/square metre per hour, so wear a fucking hat for fucks sake.

For one lamp you should be able to run quite a while off a car battery on a wheel barrow.

Then drag it home and recharge it.

Or carry the solar panel with you.

Might be a good selling point; 'see how my shop is looking after the planet and saving energy' heh heh

I can't answer your question about the shows since I have been fortunate enough to have power at every show I've been two...both of 'em ;o)

Encalmos...http://www.thegldg.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3000&highlight=encalmo - last post

A disk flip is just a way to design and flip over a piece of tubing so the design is on the inside. Encalmo is basically adding one section to another section to make one bigger section, whether you are using a disk flip or a reversal, etc. etc. etc. You can take a 'disk flip' and 'encalmo' it to another piece of tubing to make one bigger section. You may have been correct labeling your pieces in the first place. :o)

The 12v track lights that are commonly sold at Home Depot or whatever for use with a inline inverter will also work with a car battery hookup instead. Deep cycle marines are the best but also cost.

yeah loki's got it. you can encalmo a disc flip, or disc flip an encalmo, but then thats still gonna need to get encalmoe'd somewhere else

If you want to go easy and neat. Get one of the nice car jump starter batterys If you get one of the real nice ones they have a 110 volt inverter built in. so you can run 12volt or 110. and the best part is they are in a nice carry case and all self contained. They are also useally deep cycle batteries.
