Yeah..one guy that worked for him went out on his own, and made similar looking pieces selling them im galleries in Seattle, even though Chihuly didn't make em to start with...hey man..that goblet looks to much like mine...knock it off.

The original suit was about the guy who hired that guy to make knock offs......the rest is really stupid history....

...its a win for both sides? really? its actually more of a consession. if the petitioner didnt have the desire to see his case through then its more like he didnt have any faith in winning it. i dont believe the respondent in the case had any money to give to chihuly in an out of court settlement. i suppose you could call chihuy the winner since he didnt have to pay out any money which he certainly would have been ordered to.

when you file a lawsuit claiming that people are knocking off your work it doesnt help you when there are documented quotations from you saing that "no two peices are alike". thats fodder for a lawyer like blood is to a shark.

Don't get me wrong, Chihuly didn't look good and that is why the suit got dropped, it wasn't hard to see that one coming. But Rubino was a hired gun to knock off other artists work, seemed pretty clear to me, or maybe I missed something. when somebody hires you to make a design and down the road somebody hires you to make the same design under a different name it seems a little shady thats alll. rubino doesn't have any money because he doesn't sell much of his own work, he gets paid to produce others work, plain and simple. People do it all the time, he just did it to the Bill Gates of glass lol.

yeah i was only looking at it from the legal perspective, not from the business end of the glass world. it does make me feel better to read the first sentence of your post only because its a perfect example of how lawyers put people in checkmate, not for any other reason.

now if i understand chihulys situation, or maybe i dont, so im asking you, doesnt he have another suit against him for selling limited production stuff that was actually not limited production? he made 100 (example) peices and claimed to have only made (example again) 50 of them? is that still pending? if it is and it can be proven, i see a bad moon rising. it would be a shame for such a celebrated artist to get caught up in something like that. the public tends to broad brush everyone in a specific group as good guys or bad guys, id hate to see him go out that way. i dont know the guy personally, just the reputation as an artist that he made for himself.
