So Pakoh is making a lot of noise with the pipe art....
Marcel is STILL way ahead of everyone in the BIG and beautiful department...
There was a huge wave of mini's that seems to have died down now...
(my favs were Gremlin's)
The multi chamber thing could only go so far...
Anything JP does... haha
Where else are the limits being pushed??
NOW, limit pushers are habitualy secretive of their works (at least online where the "biters" run rampid) This is TOTALY understandable. I'm somewhat guilty of that, too.
I don't really want SPECIFICS. Just in general. What the hell is happening in the minds of glassblowers around the country/world?? Is that a fair question?

I personally feel I push the limits everyday, it just sucks that most of the time I can't afford or don't have the time to do it in expression. My limits are pushed more mentally and physically than artistically right now. With family, business, ect.. It's hard to push those real creative juices when they've dried up into prodo, business, people oweing you money, you oweing people money, blah, blah, I'll give fucking kudos to anyone who can find the time and the energy and money to truly express themselves. I think it's always good when the ol' melting pot is stirred up a bit, and I personally admire the reactionary outcome of pieces more than the pieces themselves. I wish my expression could create that. When art creates a strong reaction, whatever it may be, that's pushing the limits. I have no idea if that was what you were looking for Maestro, but I feel I and almost all of the flameworkers I've ever met push the limits just as much as the next guy.

so ah multi chambers, are pushing th e limits now?
not to discount marcel, he deffinetely goes real big and is tight , however to discount tim lindman (sp?), and the work of banjo, as far as asthetics and size are concerned, I would say this is a big mistake. Can you taste the waste?

Ya. Didn't mean to discount anyone.
I DID want to hear that Banjo and Tim are pushing the limits tho...
I have no idea if that was what you were looking for Maestro, but I feel I and almost all of the flameworkers I've ever met push the limits just as much as the next guy.
Yup. That's what I was looking for. I feel like you are a limit pusher if you even blow glass. Some have even approached Renegade status. I just wanted to discuss different areas that people are pushing the limits in...

not quite the answer you're looking for, but..
i think abe at precision, and the former draconis guys/gals, have made some great pushes with color, mainly their sparkle/satiny lines.. and even some of their strikers are replacing my northstar and glass alchemy staples.
dan, fluid motion glass, always seems to be pushing limits. lots and lots of his pieces have lots of shaping/functionality that i don't see anywhere else. i still think those 3-in-1 or 4-in-1 pieces are a great idea, and quite a few came off beautifully.
there are quite a few others, but those are two i feel might get overlooked.
personally, i know what i'm trying to push, but it's just going to take a technique shift, and probably some tools that don't exist. (matt, get on that :) )
i don't feel like i usually push.. just now and then.. and it's generally on a personal basis. maybe two things i kinda do might be pushing the collective limit..but.. maybe i'm just poking it.

I've seen a lot of incredible glass work that never makes the pages of ga or gp. I attend an art show in Green Lake Wi., its coming up this weekend, but last year, their were several offhand and furnace works made by people that live in or around an obscure little town of about 600 people (wont mention the place) They bring about 8-10 pieces to the show, Now this town is a retreat for the super rich, and they mostly take orders, which in turn keeps them busy the rest of the year..year in year out. The reason, is their work is so unbeleivable, I just stopped and stared last year at it, the'll do maybe 2-3 shows a year, and that keeps them busy the entire year producing works. I never knew until talking to the jury for the show, that they live close by, and I drive through the little town on the way to the show.
Guess the point is, when your work is phenominal, you don't want anyone biting it, advertising it all over the web...I know what I saw was the most impressive glass I've ever seen anywhere.
3 foot high fluted goblets, off set with plate glass, beveled, and the most vibrant of colors.

I think Im pushing my own limits, ie. working in the heat, making as many pieces as I can in a day and then beating yesterdays number, going bigger, getting better. But Im only on the torch 3 years and would be lying if I said I was pushing any of the limits of Boro as a medium.
Alot of times Ive heard the lampworking crowd is similar to the skateboarding crowd. If thats the case than I cant wait to see where boro is in a couple years! Has anybody watched the X-games latley? Those guys are PUSHING LIMITS. Huge ramps, sick tricks, double backs on motorcycles etc.. I hope we can follow suit.

I'm working on the double back-flip rodeo stringer :D... I think J-Lee is pushing the limits as far as reversal work goes. Definitely get's the most crisp/consistant patterns that I have seen.

ya those black swan reversals he does are tight!
And i see alot of limits being pushed by colaborations, mixin styles and keeping them flowing together can be difficult. and alot of fine work comes out of them!
