The Frantz Bash in August, 2006!
It's time for you to start planning your visit to Frantz in August. Why? Because of our once-a-year BASH, of course!

Our annual BASH, which is our annual Customer Appreciation Day, will be held on August 12th, which is the 2nd Saturday of the month. The hours will be from 9 am to 5 pm, although Mike's Karaoke may go a bit later. There will be plenty of flameworking demonstrations, door prizes, vendors, live music, great food and stimulating conversation with friends both old and new. Many of the demonstrators will be selling their artwork and will also be donating a piece of their artwork for door prizes. Some of the other door prizes will include gift certificates, eye protection items, videos, magazine subscriptions, and - yes, even some of the highly coveted glass from Mike's Vault! Mike will pull at least 10 full length assortments from his vault that will include colors like Amber Rose, Ochre Red Roof Tile and Sea Green, among others. This, alone, is worth coming for! But wait - there's more:

Demonstrators: Here is a list of the demonstrators we have lined up:

* Kimberly Affleck (organic-background seahorse; long, thin bi-cone)
* Larry Brickman (warring states bead)
* Henry Grimmett (Glass Alchemy colors)
* Andrea Guarino (off-mandrel flameworking; galaxy beads)
* Jed Hannay (torch demonstration)
* Nathan Miers (boro marblemaking)
* Kathy Perras (experiments with Raku on Effetre)
* Robin Poff (floral & sculptural flameworking)

The demonstrations will be set up with plenty of seating and some of them will have a mic and a projector and screen for better sound and viewing.

Vendors: Besides the demonstrators, who all want to sell some of their artwork, we will also have tables and vendors from Glass Alchemy, The Flow Magazine, Bucket O' Mud, and others.

Food: Mike has decided to treat all of our customers with free food. He will be serving Vietnamese seafood from Xinh's (pronounced zin's). As many of you already know, Xinh is very well known for her wonderful energy, personality and cooking ability. Her food is fabulous and folks come from miles around to eat. Here is a write up from Best of Citysearch ( http://seattle.citysearch.com/profile?id=10890951):
Quote:
Though the menu [at Xinh's restaurant - Editor] includes items like beef with black bean sauce, chicken curry and seared catfish, the jewels here come from nearby saltwater farms: Mediterranean mussels, oysters and clams. Xinh prepares them spectacularly well, stressing simplicity but not plainness. Her oyster stew, for example, is chockablock with bivalves in creamy broth flavored by scallions and celery. She bakes oysters with black beans, bacon, parmesan, garlic and basil. She steams clams with black-bean sauce, aromatic vegetables and basil and serves them with jasmine rice. (Of course, she also serves oysters on the half-shell, crisp and fresh — and shucked perfectly.)

Especially memorable are the mussels. Xinh's husband runs the mussel farm, and when she arrives at the processing plant to pick up shellfish she comes armed with his insight. Tender and sweet-flavored, the plump mussels star in any of Xinh's many preparations — Vietnamese curry, for example, or in a fruity, sweet-sour tamarind sauce.

The only catch to this fabulous feast is that you must register by August 1st. We need to give Xinh time to prepare for all of us. If you don't like or can't eat seafood, or if you miss the pre registration, we will also have a free barbeque (including vegetarian), and you don't have to reregister for this. To register for Xinh's Seafood please send an email to Kathy@FrantzArtGlass.com and let us know how many people will be in your party.

Lodging/Camping: We will have camping in the field across from our store, just as we did last year. Camping space will be available from 5:00 PM on Friday, August 11 through Sunday, August 13 at 6:00 PM in the field across from Frantz Art Glass.
There are only 3 rules to follow:

* Keep an eye on your children and pets (dogs - cats - iguanas . . .) and clean up after them
* No alcohol
* No open fires

For those who would prefer to stay in a hotel, Mike has reserved a block of rooms at the Little Creek Casino and Hotel, just 10 minutes south of Frantz Art Glass. The block is reserved for both Friday and Saturday nights, the 11th and 12th of August. Our Summer Bash will be on Saturday, August 12th. The rooms are normally $115 per night but if you register early and say that you want a room from the "Frantz Art Glass Block" the price will be reduced to $104. On top of that, when you arrive if you first go into the casino and ask for a VIP card before you sign in, the room gets an additional 10% off, bringing the total to just $89 (plus tax). The VIP card will also bring you some other benefits. The block we've reserved is for Double Queen Non-Smoking rooms. Of course you will want to make your reservation early. For reservations please call them directly at 1-800-667-7711.

It was a good time! I wish I had taken more pics, but I was running around and buying supplies most of the time between vending and demos. Hopefully more people will post pictures too.

The Frantz Bash was busy! Lots of people, and I even made some sales! The demos' were great and it was great to meet some new faces and well as see some old...

Momka's Open House on Sunday was great fun too! Good food, fun demo's, and lots of experimental canes and colors to try out.
