As Promised... " Eigenschaft, A love Story"

Hey Guys and Gals,

As I am making preparations to go to the CHAMPS show in Vegas tomorrow, I figured I would clear the air since I have gotten PMs, IMs and emails all directing me to the post about the fact that Eigenscchaft Glass is back in business. Now that things have evolved to less then cordial terms between UST and Max, the owner of Eigenschaft, I will give an accurate account of what's gone on to date.

Firstly, there was some misinformation I myself provided regarding the fire that ultimately led to the demise of Eigenschaft. The reason that the fire could not have been extinguished in the furnace area is because all of the fire protection equipment and water lines had been removed in the room to make space for the gas lines. There was supposed to be a halon system installed but that never happened. The architects and engineers that built the furnace instructed them to raise the ceiling 8' above the furnace for fire safety. Instead they nailed some fireboard to the ceiling, and it was on top of this fireboard that the fire started. None of this affects any of you directly, and I apologize for the misinformation. I had my reasons at the time I posted it, anyone who needs me to elaborate on this can pm me for an explanation.

As far as things that do affect you directly, be aware that since Eigenschaft had not paid their freight bills in some time, some of you may have been contacted to pay shipping charges you already paid to Eigenschaft because Max took the money and didnt pay his bills. I know Misha had gotten one of these notices, and apparantly in the United States there is a law that states that shipping companies can go after the reciever for payment if the shipper doesnt pay their bills. UST has offered credits and discounts, although bearing no responsibility for Eigenschaft's wrongdoings, in order to help offset some of these charges.

With regards to the current Eigenschaft product, rest assured it is not Simax. I believe that I stated already that Eigenschaft was Simax overstock, it was first quality glass however. Eigenschaft and their agent inside Simax defrauded Kavalier Simax and Bohemia Crystalex Trading out of over $300,000. The inside agent is currently under investigation. Simax would not touch Eigenschaft with a 10' pole and Eigenschaft has become a bad word in the industry worldwide.

As far as the set back is concerned, I believe that this was their inability to scam any more money out of the lampworking community in the USA. I got a call from the California District Attorney's office about a payment for $14,000 that Max took from a client as prepayment for material. Max never shipped the material and never returned the money. When contacted by an attorney, he said that I forged his name on the check and took it, and that he had no knowlege of the incident in question. So I have an attorney threatening me with forgery and fraud charges, who is not inclined to check the bank records himself because " He doesnt want to bill his client for things that the police will uncover for free." Long story short they were able to contact Eigenschaft's bank and verify Max's signature on the check and they let me off the hook. Max scammed his clients out of tens of thousands of dollars in finished product at the end of the whole deal in exchange for product that would never ship. I was glad to know that he hadnt done this to any of you, just his larger production customers.

I was very suprised to find out that they were going to give it another whirl. I hope this will serve to dispel any myths that I still work for them or that I am one of the owners of Eigenschaft. I have to chalk my time there up as a learning experience, and even though they still owe me more then $3000 in back pay, the experience that I gained was pretty valuable. I would glady answer any other questions that anyone else may have about the situation.

Yes, I am being billed for shipping from Eigenschaft that I have invoices marked as "paid" on...the shipping company doesn't give a shit, they just want their money, from someone.

Max also owes me around $3000.

I'm trying to get in touch with him, again, but the last year or so has been failed attempts.

Ill tell you what has been semi-amusing through all of this is that a cliche' was born out of the whole thing. On several occasions when people have been screwed over by their glass suppliers they refer to it as Eigenschafted.

Todd, you might wanna check your own rep in the industry, I really have no desire to call you. I dont recall ever being called out on anything. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Like I told you last time you made a rant about my company and service, you are free to shop elsewhere. I never promoted UST as Simax quality and what I stated about the tolerances was 100% true regarding the fact that UST is manufactured to Schott tolerances. And because you explained to me that you rage your torch harder then anyone else in the industry, I can understand why you might have boiling problems. The parent company of UST IS owned by Russian Engineers who worked with the Chinese to get the quality to where it is now. As far as the Chinese cobalt rod, I believe I took it all back and refunded you your money when you werent satisfied with that. This is the same policy I have with UST. I dare one person to post that they werent satisfied and asked for refund/replacement and we didnt give it to them. Who else gives a guarantee like that?

some more facts, i have delt with adam a bunch of times in the last year or so and he has hooked it up fat many times. i cant speak on all of the points you just laid out in your completely incohesive mess of a post but to say that he is out to screw the glassblowing community seems really rediculous. i just needed a couple ground glass joints quick for a customer who was on my ass and they showed up the next morning. as far as adam lying about where the glass came from, ive never heard anything of the sort. as far as the glass being crappy, i havent noticed that either. what i have noticed is the extra cash in my bank account. whatever todd, i dont know if you have ever actually met adam, but he sure hasnt been there to screw me over.

well i got 6 case of ust that i hate, and wont use, i ordered 11 cases 6 ust and 5 simax... when you first started ust..
i would have sent back the ust but the cost to send it to me and back to you is about half the cost of the glass. so what am i to do but keep it. cost me 200 to ship to me and the same to shipp back thats half of the price of the glass...

so if anyone around oregon and washington want to buy some of this stuff hit me up....

Adam has been a good person to deal with its just the ust brand of glass sucks.....
even replaced the bokren glass super fast with new cases, the old case had no dividers so now thats all marked up from rubbing together, makes it worth less to. but i do have 3 cases of ust that is divide with card board. that were replace ment for the three that broke in shipping... so that stuff is fine.. but the other 6 cases are trash to me, what can you make with scared up glass... not a whole lot.......

im sure ill be dealing with glass evolution from now off since they are close and have somkin prices of schott and si max......

I agree 100%.........Adam has been very friendly and I look forward to meeting him and everyone else at AGI.....but I really dislike the glass. I don't plan to ever buy it again..unless there are some quality control changes. the only size I have found a use for is 9.5 X 2mm for blow tubes.

OK, here's the deal. I was duped by Eigenschaft.

I brought this back in with the understanding that it was the same as before (Simax overruns). When it arrived, it was in larger than normal boxes but I just thought that it was Max's re-packaging.

After checking out the glass (late yesterday), I could tell that it was not the old Simax overruns. After working it in the flame, it was obvious that I had been duped. It does not work bad in the flame, just not the same as Simax.

After some investigation, it turns out that it is the same glass that UST is selling. This is a high quality, chinese made clear boro. I will say, I have worked chinese clear before and have HATED it. This is much better, still not up to par with Simax, but the best working chinese clear I have used.

I will not continue to sell Eigenschaft. What I have in stock will be at close-out prices and will not be re-ordered.

If anyone would like to order what I have in stock it will be $2/lb by the case only.

I do apologize for this and would not have offered Eigenschaft again if I had know that it was not the same glass as before.

i say ust is ok in my book. its got its uses for me at least. i havent gotten through the whole case that i just got but the tubes ive run threw for some spoons was up to par for sure no complaints here. i can say ive tried anything else with it but for production its the bomb. packing was straight no issues there.

Eigenshaft was a company that distributed Simax over runs. They were never able to actually tell us they were Simax overruns. I was always told it was "possibly Schott or Simax over runs" . They relabeled the Simax boxes with their own labels. Eugene Glass Alliance was a west coast distributor for Eigensahft for a period of time I beleive.

It was great glass at a even better price. They were always sold out though making it difficult to be a reliable source for materials.

Apparently they were about to manufacture their own glass in a facility in Philly but that ideal burned to the ground.

Relabeled Simax is still available but it is not coming from Eigenshaft...
