hey guys and gals,
i was wondering if anybody could explain how the webbing is done.
like this piece from m&m http://www.glasspipes.org/Image.asp?ImgFile=Img31623_RLB_011.jpg
i was messing around and trying to pull a thin tube addings bits and coiling up and then trying to melt in after it is coiled. is this the right way to go about it or am i way off.
thanks

maybe a blowout to make the curly hollow part??? and then i would guess they just add the coloured webs in between afterwards very carefully. im a rookie though so i am almost certainly wrong! :)

looks like a flat bit that was tungsten drilled out then reamed

Hey I was inspired by the same piece awhile back and gave it a try, it turned out alright. Just make your curls out of any hollow section. With a very small flame start bridging back and fourth to get the webbing with a stringer. Melt those connections in well and make sure to give a puff to insure a good seal. You can use a reamer or tungstun to further shape it. Make sure and reheat the entire piece between some steps to curltail any cracking issues and continue on. here's a pic of the piece I did, thanks for the inspiration M& M! Sorry about that bad pics.

if i was gonna try it, i think i'd make the hollow section, and apply some little surface dots of color, smaller to bigger along the length of the piece, get a good heat base in the whole thing, and start rollin it up, a lil at a time, making contact and fusing to the dots then pulling it back up a ways to stretch the web a lil.....reaming/spot heating as needed.
....course i've never done it, that's just what my first couple trys would prolly be.
