Just wondering, since most of us, or at least some, work totally for themselves. About how many hours a day/week do you spend blowing glass. It's all too easy for me to take the day off since I can't get fired and I thought it'd be cool if I had an average from other glassblowers. For me I try to set a $120 a day quota when I work and that usally takes me about 4 hours, but I guess I don't work as often as a should. So a guess I'm just wondering what your average work day and week is like, how much $$$ do you try to make? Thanks!!:twitch:

i try to make $200 on a full day and $100 to $150 on a half day and then alternate back and forth for a total of $1000 per week. (i didn't used to work so much but i have a kid and my wife has gone back to school.) a full day is about 5 or 6 hours, a half is 3 or 4 hours. this way i have some time to do other stuff every day and i don't feel too burned out. i'm also curious to see what other peoples schedules are like.
peace, M

250 gross wholesale is my goal, and i only started the "daily goal" thing after 2 years on the torch.. it's made a big difference.. and for the better.
time? i try not to keep track. anywhere from 4-7 days a week, 6-11 hours a day.

Wow, some of you guys work a LOT. But working at home, I'd probably never leave my torch if I were single. And langlass, were you counting wholesale or retail? damn you must be fast!! Thanks guys

The thing is to make X dollars of stuff a day, its only worth that X dollar amount if you can sell it for that and if there is a market. So while using the example of making a prodo item, one person might make 20 items in a day that they know they can sell for $200, thus they make $200 a day worth of stuff, but another person making the exact same quality and quantity may only be able to sell them for $100 in their area, and in my case where I live now there is almost no market for anything glass so it doesnt matter how many I am making a day, I am still making zero dollars a day.

I am not whining, as I am continually working on figuring out what niche or things I can make that will sell in my area, but there isnt much i have found from my research, thus all my work and things I made are at a loss as I am using up gas and glass and not getting anything for it and getting poorer everyday. My point being is that other people saying how much they make per day doesnt have much of a bearing on other people as its a highly subjective market.

I usually will make about one, maybe two mushroom pendants in a week.

Mon. --- 8 hours--- I pull stringers, trying to get the perfect one.
Tue. --- 8 hours--- I try to find the perfect clear rod.
Wed. --- 8 hours--- I heat the rod into a nice gather.
Thur. --- 8 hours--- I push the stringer into the gather.
Fri. --- 8 hours--- I shape into a pendant
Sat. --- 8 hours--- I put loop on pendant
Sun. --- 8 hours--- I anneal pendant.

As you can see, I usually work seven days a week with no time off. It usually comes out to about 56 hours a week. I sell my mushroom pendants for $56,000 so I guess I get about $1000 an hour which isn't too bad. It's a pretty good living and all, but the long hours and no time off is really getting to me. I could probably work faster, but I don't want to sacrifice the quality of the piece.

you could outsource your annealing. i hear the indians and the chinese are getting pretty good.

Sweet, that would give me Sunday off. I shouldn't be working on the lords day anyways.
