View Full Version : glass slipper
My fiance has decided that it would make our wedding perfect if she could have a piece of the cinderella story. She wants me to make her a glass slipper that I can place on her foot(of course it has to fit) before i ask her for our first dance. She's not going to wear or stand on the shoe it just has to fit. I've made several attempts and you don't realize how big a size 6 1/2 shoe is till you try to make one. I've made a couple that will work but they're not as smooth and clean as I want. I was hoping I could get some suggestions of how and in what order you would make a clear glass slipper. She wants it to have a closed toe and a 3 inch high heel. It doesn't need to have a back... just slipper style. I head back to montana for the wedding on friday so I only have a couple of days left to make it. Any suggestions you have would be great!!

are you using kiln-formed plate boro glass? if not, that could be an idea, seems like an ideal "moccassin". best wishes.

Maybe you could slump a piece of plate boro for the sole and use a running stitch for the upper.

Manipulating boro plate sounds like a great idea. You can use the plate for the toe part too. It can probably be shaped on a bracelet mandrel. Good luck!
I would get a plate glass about three inches wide, however long an draw an outline, punty her up an take some jim moore shears an cut to sole patteren, after that maybe outline(the edges where cut) with a nice white? Punty that up, get it bendy hot an shape like a three inch heel sole, i'd recommend bringing some sort of model while your making it, a real shoe model, just a shoe. Using plate glass an a braclet mandrel seems like a really good idea for the 'toe-over', nice tapered piece of 16mil to8 mil for that raised heel. I would imagine it will take a few attempts, good luck.

I may try blowing an elongated bubble , do some shaping then puff to keep the inside from coming in on the foot or just make it a little larger and not worry if it feels comfy , now you have a shoe shaped bubble , pop a hole where you want the foot to enter and shape to make it possible , the toe in this way should have the blowtube , or from the other end , shape reverse , then pull off the blowtube with the thin wall bubble style , leaving an opening to shape as desired . Oh and of course then attach the heel .
Thanks for all the suggestions. I really like the plate glass ideas but unfortunately I don't have any plate and don't have time to get any. I ended up blowing the shoe out of some 60mm heavy wall. I think it would have looked better if made out of plate but oh well. We work with what we have.
thanks again,

Wouldn't glass Birkenstocks be more appropriate?

I say you drink your toast from it , it would be the whole drinking from her shoe gig ,but you have a glass too . Many wishes of happiness .
Yes it supports her weight although we haven't put it through any rigorous trials. The thinnest part of the shoe is about 3 mm thick with the sole over 5mm. I wouldn't want her to walk around in it but she can definitely stand and model it.

Derek, your bride's a lucky girl! You did a great job on the Cinderella slipper--I couldn't imagine how you'd get one made in such a short time. Congratulations to you both and have a happy life together. :D
