I would be willing to bet that Elvis paraphenalia will eventually come out on top again. He is, after all, not a worthless smackhead hack who could barely carry a tune in a fucking bucket, Elvis was a crazy pharmaceutical addict with paranoid delusional tendencies. But, he could sing.

Long live the king

Eat that shit, hippies.

...no disrespect to curt or nirvana but elvis opened the door to make rock and roll main stream. there will never be another one like him whether youre an elvis fan or not.

i can actually remember the night elvis 'passed the torch' of r&r king on to the beatles by telegram after a performance on ed sullivan. sullivan read it on the air.

elvis opened the door but the beatles remodled the mansion.

so heres a question, best r&r band ever. who would you nominate?

on my list id have to have

led zepplin

Mark Farner of Grand Funk was the Ronnie Van Zant of Skynyrd before their time.

Alvin Lee from Ten Years After put out that great album Watt.

gotta mention Savoy Brown too...saw a concert way back when:

Deep Purple...Savoy Brown...Uriah Heep...tickets were $5.00..gone are the days..to many to mention here but..

yeah...thank you...thank you very much was the king, remember being in Memphis on a cold april day at Graceland, I was the only one in the garden, standing over Elvis's grave, and a strong wind came along, got some chills and looked around liked he was standing their...one of them their feelings.

Of all the 70's styles mine would be

crosby stills nash and young
tull
wishbone ash
the heep
moody blues
foghat
climax blues band
april wine
the list goes on..

It may be of some value to point out that when Elvis was "King" the population of the US was about half what it is now... and a much smaller percentage of that population were rock fans than of today's population.

Just trying to make trouble...

...elvis didnt invent rock and roll but he was 'instrumental' in making it main stream. there was so much prejudice in the country at that time and for a long time before that, that black performers just werent accepted.

sam phillips of sun records knew he had something marketable when he found a white singer with a black voice in elvis.

if jerry lee lewis wasnt a knock off of little richard i dont know what else would have given him the idea.

Elivs was a pawn for thieving record companys, plain and simple. Yeah, he could sing and dance....hum I wander where he got that from...Chuck Barry maybe?? Saddest part was that he really loved and respected the artists his label ripped off.
Elivs king...yeah right, get you a stack of old Blues and R&b records and play name that hit...keep and eye out for these Zepplin tunes as well!

Long live Kurt.....a fucking original in this most unoriginal of times!!!!!

GG Allin? REO Speedwagon? Kings of what? Dumbassed-ness (at least GG Allin I mean c,mon)

If you want to hear tone percect, blues dripping raunchy guitar, then beautiful pschycedelic serene passages, with a deeper meaning and undiniable asthetics in music. Or monster passages flowing through colored mountains, and sounds of colored cliffs, to hear sunsets that would make any sky jelous, look no further than Jerry man.

As it was said before it was because Courtney sold many of the rights to whomever would fork out money for her next fix. ME, as for the Beatles being the original boy band, I've never heard of a boyband writing their own songs and playing all their own instruments. I might be more apt to say they were the original pop band. Plus in a thousand years no one will ever know who N'sync was but they'll still be listening to the Beatles.
