looking to get into fusing/slumping, almost strictly flat, no molds, anyone have reccomendations as to sources of info/materials?
i know boro is basically a no-no, and i'm not even looking to try, i just want to get into some soft glass fusing, and need to know the basics.....
anything that would help me find materials online would be tight too....ie. brands of glass (bullseye? others?) it's just hard to find things online if you dunno what they're called, ya know?
anything you can feed me would be appreciated, thx

We have used bullseye and system 96. The cool thing with system 96 is you do not need the over glaze to combat devit...but they have a lot less colors. It is less expensive than bullseye though.

You can fuse any glass, just stick within one brand, and it helps if they actually state that they are "tested compatible" meaning all their glass, in that line, will work together.
Now, I say you can fuse any glass- I have a friend who fuses old used cosmetic bottles onto plate glass as collages- she calls them "Ode to Beauty"... I think they are pretty funny, and they haven't stress cracked on her yet (it's been years).
Get one decent book, have access to a big enough kiln, and give it a whirl. It's kind of fun- slow, but fun.

Also, in addition to that, you can experiment with window glass from Home Creepo.
SUPER CHEAP!
But be aware that it has a thin film of tin on one side and will de-vit. You can test for this with a Short Wave UV light. Just fuse with the tin side down.
Boyce Lundstrom's books helped me alot.
Graham Stone has a great book out too. Kiln Companion?
Have FUN!
