Wondering if anyone has told their insurer they're doing this at home? I'm wondering what kind of coverage, if any, I should have?
thanks,
Phil

I am insured through State Farm. My house is insured with homeowners insureance, and my garage/glassshop is insured as an art studio/gallery. I had an insurance agent come out and watch me work and check out my shop. I pay $250/year for the art studio insurance which covers me for up to 2 million dollars worth of damage caused to other people or houses and $400,000 for my house. I'm soooo glad I have the insurance, I dont have to over worry anymore.
Good luck!

i own my home and my shop is in my attached garage.when i got my homeowners policy i told them i was setting up a glass studio in the garage.their reply was "cool, sounds like fun."and also they said everything was covered in the homeowners policy unless i needed xtra $$ covered for tools, over and above the homeowner policy limit.

you should be sure that it ALL is covered, they tried to say the same thing to me(because the first agent I talked to was new I think) but I found out that with just a homeowners policy, if you acidentally burn down your house AND your neighbors house, homeowners policy wont cover it because you did that with your business, not your home. You can tell them that you blow glass as a hobby and then it will be fine, But insurance fraud is a little to serious for me.
