well, what we do in our studio, get a commemertive silver coin, or ingiot, make sure its 99.999 pure (not sterling , DUH you know this I am sure) and a pair of neaddle nose plyers, and a graphite marble mold, and a babyfood jar. Hold silver in flame, and let it smolt into your marble mold, then pour it into the baby food jar... it will form little balls, then you can take a hammer and flatten the little balls easily, and cut it simply
Check local pawnshops for "scrap" silver... most places will sell it to you at market costs, and sometimes they can get 1lb and 5 lb ingots, that they will sell to you at a discount price
I hope this helps

I hold the coin with tweezers and put the edge in the flame and melt it onto a graphite plate. Gives bb sized peices good for a couple fumes. Make sure you hold the coin by the edge far from the flame cause the coin will conduct the heat and melt your tweezers.

Try looking into silver salts ( make sure your ventilation is great)
Its in powder from.
We use to powderise the coins with a bench ginder
the quick explanation - make a box like used for sand blasting, do it inside such set up.
All the silver powder collects inside.

hmmm We'z in the Studio takez takez a two pound Coffee Can full of water, Setz itz on the floor or box under the flame, ( at least two feet underz the flamez) and catch the little dropletz.. Thay comez out like corn flakez. much eazyer to meltz and cutz... ( THE "z' ARE USED BECAUSE IF YOU DON'T AIM THE LITTLE DROPLETS CORRECTLY.. THAT THE SOUND YOU GET BY HITTING YOUR SHOES)
Silver .999 coins from any coin shop is best.. The silver Jewerly ribbin and wire is way to costly..

I put the silver bar on a piece of paper, then I take the drill with a 1/8 inch bit and drill holes throughout the bar, it leaves me enough silver for a year.

hold coin with needlenose pliars.
place coin on anvil.
bash coin with small sledge or large framing hammer till thin enough to cut into strips with tinsnips.\
cut into strips.
if desired, bash strips again, they mash much easier than whole coin.
when desired thickness is achieved, cut into 1/8" strips (or so) and nip into pieces suitable for fuming.
man, i been at this for almost 3 yrs and still not though an oz of silver.......if only the ounces of everything else went so slowly.

Its not that I need to know how to get silver in a form for fuming I got that yrs ago. What Ive never done is use powdered silver like I see in some of these marbles floating around. Just interested in a good way to get that achieved.
