I ordered a case of tubing a week and a hlf ago, usually stuff only takes a day or 2 to get here. Its been almost 2 weeks, apparently UPS lost my case.....
Now i cant work cause ive got nothing, the only thing i can do is twist up color until my case gets here. Yee haww...

Bleh. We had something delivered here by DHL (I think that's the name). Instead of delivering it to 851, my address, they delivered it to 861. Then the neighbor put the package on my wifes aunts front steps which never get used in the winter. The package was delivered last monday and we didn't finally find it until friday.
I always prefer UPS, at least they know how to read the big numbers on the side of my house (and on the package).

I have been having bad luck with UPS recently. Several of my customers have been getting broken tubes/rods. I pack them as carefully as I always do, but they still break them. I go FedEx now and not only is it quicker, it's more reliable.

Don't worry mate, it's on it's way. Just like the instructional DVD I ordered last, hmmm, when was it -June I think.
Maybe (like me), you asked for the cheapest possible postage rate?
I'm expecting some bedraggled soul to turn up one of the days with his clothes in tatters, thin as a whip having trudged through Mexico on foot.
I'm gonna tell him it's Volume two I wanted then hand him a knife for his wrists and put it on you-tube.

For sure try and use Fedex always..I use to work at UPS and the workers just throw shit around...the belts get jammed with those larger boxes so they man handle them...trust me UPS is no good..plus they are pretty damn expensive...

That freaking sucks dude!
Better to lose a case of raw glass in the mail than a case of finished glass...trust me. I know that probably doesn't make you feel much better, but it could in fact, be much worse.
Coilpots, solid color twisty canes, stringers, solid color honeycombs. Got any 18mm+ rod? You could do marble blow-outs by feeding the color into a clear gather and blowing it out into tubing. What about scraps...make some franken-headdies. Ummm, what else...

TL is right on! maybe you could use this "extra time" to experiment with things you have never done...What are you working with? maybe we can come up with a few ideas.

in 5 years, not yet. i've only had one case damaged enough that i didn't think i should open the box. it wasn't THAT bad.. but.. not worth paying for it.

Hmm, I seem to have the opposite experience with UPS. Any other carrier gets lost because we are in the cemetery. Guess it also helped my aunt was a driver for UPS. First female driver in the history of the company to retire with a 30 year safe driving record. So I knew my local driver by name and she took care of me. We also get all our military plaques from UPS so they are used to delivering here. I will say UPS can be tough on the boxes. I am often getting semi crushed boxes. If I would ever send any finished glass bet your ass it would be double boxed with an air space between boxes.
I'm not impressed with DHL and I will never use fedex voluntarily since my father in law had a $50,000 check for our business sent to us signature confirmation by fedex. Rather than call the phone number on the order to find us the driver just tossed the envelope out the window. He admitted to this and was fired for it once he found out what he tossed.

A few years back around christmas, there was some kinda consumer reports article done about the different mail carriers. They shipped something like 1000 packages through each of the main carriers(ups, usps, fedex, and dhl) and saw wrote about the results. From what I remember, fedex came out on top with the least lost/beaten packages. I have a little time, so I'll look around for the article. I've used ups about 10 times in the last two months with no problems<crosses fingers>.

So i got my case today so i did a ton of prep work.....lessoned learned. Always buy more before you run out. Otherwise you will be a whinney little bitch and have nothing better to do about it except bitch and moan on this board.
heh
I always try and pick up my glass because last time I had a case of tube sent to me three of them were completely shattered, they also stole a Nintendo Wii from me this past Christmas, they didn't even give a shit.

I know freight is a bit much for the most of you but that's been the most secure way I've come across.

I forgot about that. Me and old man clemins girlfriend were sitting in the house. And the next thing you know we were at gun point and our house filled with cops. They felt dumb.
