I'd say if its so dirty or cloged that reg cleaning don't help it then I'd say it might need to be sent in.
But other wise if there is nothing wrong no need to send it in.

If you meaning how long will you have to wait for it to come back if sent in.
Ya they get to the ones sent in for cleaning right away. I have never heard of 1 taking very long.

If it is run correctly, it won't need more than an occassional cleaning you do yourself with the wires and brush provided with the torch.

Now, if it is sent in, the turn-around time is usually 1-2 weeks.

try turning the wire using it like a drill also you can get a pair of pliars and grip the wire down low this will help you poke through the hard carbon build up. DONT STICK SHARP OR BENT WIRES IN YOUR HOLES. I have a lot of good cleaning tips for cleaning these torches { I have done it way to many times} If you have questions about cleaning your torch proper or getting a stubborn port unplugged hit me up in PM and Ill help ya out.

I learned how to do this from Willy:

Take a wire and grind a chisel point to it. One way you can do this by touching it to the side of a Dremel tool cut-off wheel a few times (touch side of wire to side of wheel, lift off wire and rotate a third of the way around, touch down on wheel, repeat til you have a few sides to the wire - a chiseled point). Then, hold the wire in your fingers and roll it back and forth and gently go in and out of the blocked port and try to break up whatever is clogging it up with that chisel pointed wire.

Keep in mind that the wires will only go so far down into the tubes. And, never stick anything but one of the supplied cleaning wires down into those little tubes. Sometimes, you can use a pin to gently move one of the center tubes around to break up stuff in the surrounding propane port, but you have to be extra careful not to push it in.

i had tons of trouble trying to do that... till i got home and found the cleaning pin vice that came with my minor...

boom never a problem getting them in to every hole.... als makes it easier to give it a gental wiggle to get rid of the carbon and not push down on it.

What size wire is used to clean the holes in a GTT? I have a pcs of .015 inch stainless and tho its pretty thin. Its HUGE still compaired to the tiny hole in the center of the tube. I can just put a point on it and use a pcs in a pin vice to wiggel the tubes but thats about it. Tho thats all its ever needed and the brush. In the 2 times I have ever had to clean it in the 2 or 3 years We have had it.

But it would be good to know incase it ever does get dirty.

I'll see if I can find out about the wire size.

But, I can tell you guys that if you need a little brush, you can get the stainless steel mini end brush by Dremel. All you have to do is sweep the torch face - not scrub it. Even if you don't have a GTT, that is a great choice to use for torch brushing. I don't recommend cleaning with a brass brush because brass is so soft and the bristles can break off into the ports.

I do have one of the Dremel brushes. That Does work pretty good.

I remember on of the brothers telling me exactly what size it was. So they probely know it right off the top of the head. Maybe it was .0015 But I thought oh I don't need a pencil I'll remember. Then I was at the hardware store the next day. and all I could remember is it was a decmil point some 0's and a five.

It's not necessary. All you have to do is brush and clean and then turn on the torch and run it hard for a little bit to burn off and blow out anything left behind in the oxygen or fuel ports.

I see people telling everyone to always run the oxygen when they clean a torch (any torch). But, when you clean a standard torch, the port you stick the wire down into is the fuel port. Running oxygen while you are cleaning that port won't do anything. If you follow the logic that you have to keep gas flowing while you clean a port, you would have to run your fuel while you were cleaning it - and keeping the fuel on while the torch is unlit is dangerous.

Since the tiny tubes you use the wire with are the oxygen injectors, only the blue valve would blow anything out of those tubes. But, again, it is not necessary to do that.

I bought my GTT second hand back in Canada so I never got any cleaning brushes or anything with it but the torch and hoses.
