people want dills! i wasnt into trying to make them before because of possible safty issues and legalities, but ive made a few lately as gifts and stuff, now a bunch of people want them. so with something like this is there anything i should be worried about if something went wrong?? or someone was injured while using one? do i need to get a waiver of some sort? put a disclaimer on them? should i maybe get a polariscope to check for stress after. dont need to get sued or anything now do we!!:D

polariscope... two polorized filters with a back light....for showing stress....

big problem is that it doesnt work on color like it does clear.....

i make mine out of clear... clear is so sexy if you can get your form down proper.

Ummm .... dont know about legalitys.... i aneal .. check in a scope if it has minimum stress... then i sell it... but i also only do custom work so i can talk to thine and tell them not to use it like a hammer..... consitering the act... i dont think a properly constructed dillie would ever break..... but you never know....

I would just use clear to your comfy that you can create a peice with colors that wont effect the strength of the peice.... i would figure solid colors would be best....

Some states have bans on sexual or marital aids.... most the time these products are sold under a novelty or personal health care names..... as far as i can remeber.

I was trying to sell a porn store some extra dillis I had after valentines day one year, and they started saying that they heard a story about a dillis from a local blower breaking off inside someone. you would need some sort of ninja snatch to break a glass dilly. seriously i doubt any of those stories about them breaking inside a customer are true.
since they are made from glass and not latex they really are'nt met for anything other than solo use. you can really damage someone's genitials ramming furriously ramming it in and out.

heyn i make mine line of dills on 38mm xxhwt full of color and gold fume , some times i use opals in them ... very high end toys, the tubing is stronger then solid rod and will take more abuse "lots of it".... the funny thing is i make alot of them for my wifes friends....hehehe sort of wierd knowing my handy work is getting them off when there spouce cant.....

Talking about breaking dillis. I saw some import dillid from China years ago and the were crazy scary for the ladies. There was stess cracks and none melted tickle spots. This might have been only samples but a store I was selling to had them and said there was no problems with them, when in the back o9f my head I was like scary.

Yeah Abe, I have seen those around here as well.... one shop had a few a while back that were either import or really crappy domestic, with cadmium colors all boiled and rough on the outside..... I kinda cringed thinking about the poor girl who got one of those. Some people should stick to selling tie dyed shirts, inscense, and fake dread hats.

as for size... yeah... I made a few a while back and showed them to some of my female friends and to my surprise they were all whores too. They wanted much bigger. I figured I'd find some 50mm rod (anyone know who has some? I know corning has made it in the past) and chuck it in a lathe and shape it into a fist and show that to some people.... see what they say.

I've never heard a legit-sounding story about breakage either...I think it's probably a story some douchebag made up back in the day to keep people out of his market. That's my guess. I wouldn't worry about the legalities if you know what you are doing with glass, and just doing a few for friends/acquaintances. If you are starting a dilly company, then I think you may have some legal obligations for insurance and such.

I'm just guessing that the legal wink and a nod here is the disclaimer all these toys usually carry that says "sold as a novelty only".

Having said that, maybe I should make a novelty for my wife but make sure it anneals over a couple of days to make sure it's good and sturdy.

I am glad this thread started up, as I bought some dilly stock and am going to start doing this myself, I have not seen any glass dills for sale anywhere and with the limited number of boro workers in Oz, its not like I would have much competition, so it seems like a good way to go.

Unfortunetly my kiln is busted right now so its iportant I fix that so I can anneal properly, and I am going to build a polariscope. I dont know where to buy polarized filters, but while digging through some stuff I found these paper glasses they give you to watch 3-D movies and they are using polaraized pieces of plastic for the lenses, they are only about 2"x2" but I figure I could build a small polariscope with those. I could even make it portable with a flashlight as the light source to show to explain to sex shops what stress and annealing is all about.

But still I do wonder about the legalities, as it is possible for someone to be stupid and to drop their dilly on a concrete floor and chip or crack it and then just keep on using it and then it could crack on them and cut them up. I think I am going to include a little card with each one talking about proper use and care and to inspect them before each use for chips and cracks.

Since I am also going to be doing this as soon as I get my kiln fixed, I am starting to think about pricing.... Most of the properly made glass dills have always been high priced (which I think is good), around $100 or higher depending on the work that went into them. Granted I have seen all the cheap import glass dills going for around $20 sometimes less. But I am wondering what a good price is for a proper made, local one ?

Take for example, lets say were making just a clear dildo, not too elaborate, I would take my 30mm diameter chunk of rod, that was say 30cm (12 inches) long, and that cost me about about $26 AUD ($20 USD) per meter, so that 30cm (12 inch) length cost about $8 AUD ($6.20 USD). and let's just say it takes about a half hour in a raging outer flame to make it into the curves, ridges and shape I want. Then of course there is annealing time and the cost of the electricity to do that.

So we got appx $7 USD in glass (counting punties and other glass used), a half hours worth of oxy/propane in a raging flame and appx 5 to 6 hours of kiln time (electricity rates will vary).. but just looking at that, its probably no more than $20 USD in total costs, and $20 labour costs for a half hours work is more than good for something simple. So $50 USD sounds like a really good and fair price, yet I have seen clear ones going for $100 USD or more. And if you do any research at high end sex shops (ie not sleazy sketchy ones) you will see that they sell silicone dildos for over $100 and thats just someone pouring liquid into a mold and letting it cure. So I think that when it comes to glass dills, a higher price is reasonable, no ?

Pricing: 3 X materials + time @ $60/hour US minimum = ballpark price, but I don't know if that would be a good retail or not. From your numbers in your post, you've got $21 for mat'l + $30 time + kiln time... $50 is too low. But then again, I wouldn't pay $50 for a 1 1/4" toy, ever. You've got to think Big and Impressive- it has to be bigger and better than the average joy stick.

like i said tubing is the way to go less gathering time .. more color oppisions less stress threw the thickness that could and usally do cause problems, tubbing will take more abuse then solid rod 'example ' drop 8 inces of road and heavey wall tubbing see witch one breaks.
and pricing for a quality produce should start at 125 and up...

I have made a few of these in my adventures with glass, and done some product testing. We took some clear glass toys and dropped them on a cement floor from varying heights, ! foot, 2 feet, etc. It took untill almost 4 feet off the ground for there to be any serious damage to be done to the dill.

I just checked out that site, are those accurate prices for what dills are going for ? Granted every demographic area is different and you will get more or less dollars dependning on where you are at and the kind of people around you, but still if I could make those kind of prices by making dills, thats some seriously good money.

I get the feeling that the silicone and plastic market still wins out on those mostly because of price but also people tend to have a hard time getting past the "will it break off in my vajajay?" question

I guess if you play up the sanitary and dishwasher safe angles it's a good way to go. Maybe offer a "custom built" line so people can have a 3" wide fatty if they want or extra nubs or extra cork screw twists or whatever.

There's actually a company that makes (not out of glass) a line of dildos for a very tiny market; they make animal shapes. IOW, if you want a dog penis or a horse penis dildo, they make 'em. I could be wrong, but I think that silicone dildos are sanitary and dish washer safe as wll. There is an upscale sex shop in Vancouver that caters mainly to lesbians, I used to work about a block from them and knew one of the women who ran the store so I hung out there now and then. Most of their dills were silicone and were pretty pricey. From about $100 for a standards size/shape dill up to $300 for a double ended strapon.

I am planning to make my first one soon and I have never had anything in my kiln bigger than a 1" marble. So I was wondering if anyone could give advise on annealing something that large and thick.

Also where can you buy polarized filters or such ? A camera store ? How much are they on average ?

We use words like flap jacks,beef curtians ,floppy tuna bowl and bacon strips .But on a seriouse note I sell dillies to one company because of an agreement that i made with them . I had them put a disclaimer on them that basically says (Warning do not use this massager if chiped ,cracked or broken manufacterers and distrabuters are not responsible in any way for accidents).I always call them massagers because when I used to live in Texas you could not use the term dildo when inside the porn shops .Kinda like useing the "B" word in a smoke shop .From what I understand alot of other states have adopted this selective use of words in porn shops for legal reasons.
