Today around 5 a guy came in and wanted to see a torch .It was a national 8m combo. He was asking questions about it and asked how much it was. And then grabbed it and ran. So if any of the Portland area lamp workers see or hear of a brand new 8m combo torch for sale. It might be stolen . Some of you probaly dont care. But some do. Thanks to that fucker we now have to be very watchful and judging. Karma will find that fucker one day.

wow! Sorry to hear........Would you recognize the guys if you saw them again? you should consider upgrading your security....at least a video camera.
I was in your shop last month with Matt and Nate...seemed like a cool place, sad to see that happen.

Yeah we made a police report . Yeah we would reconize him.
...i would call the pawn shops yourself and not wait for the police. anybody thats willing to do a grab and run on an 8m isint in it for the glass but for the fast cash.
sorry this happened to you i know youre working for your money and you dont need this kind of garbage.
better days are coming.

Damn that sucks!
i'll check the "for sale" boards at the eugene shops and get back if i see anything. you might also check craig's list up there. if he took all that risk for an 8-m he's probably not too saavy. what comes around goes around...... i'm sure that's slim solace.
peace, m

The first time I got ripped off I was running the gallery where I worked and was the only employee and this guy and his girlfriend came in and the girl was asking me a bunch of questions about the glass and crystals we had and then they left togeather and it was not until about 5 mins later I realized that the guy had taken my PDA and it was a super fancy expensive one that was basically like a laptop only PDA size. Man was I pissed.
Then to add insult to injury the guy came in about a month later with a different girl, I dindt recognize him and pulled the exact same scam only this time he took my little bag (ie man purse) which had everything in it.
After that I told my boss I wanted my office moved upstairs and not on the gallery floor and we needed an employee to man the cash register.

im so sorry to hear this new portland glass.
you are such a helpful guy since i've been on this msgboard and someone as kind and helpful as you def. does not deserve to go through this bullshit, especialy since you are trying to start a family business; not some faceless corperation.
really sorry to hear, good luck catching that asshole. (p.s. try to contact oxy dealers if you can and give em the heads up / descripition of this guy... thats the only thing i can think of to get your torch back)

If he is going to use it to learn to blow glass, then he has some serious burning karma waiting for him.
What an idiot. Who steals a 100 dollar torch anyway.
I would have gone for the Python, lol.
PortlandGlassBlowers
02-17-2007, 07:14 PM
It was the 425$ combo torch. But yeah. He was in it for the pawn shop..."crack rock"
Educate me. I see the 8M for about 140 at most places.
Did you include tips or something to make it that much more?

any leads on him yet, Corey?

You know, how much it cost is not the biggest factor. The biggest factor, from my perspective anyway, is that this thief came into Corey's shop, in front of his pregnant wife and child, acted like he was an honest customer, and took the torch out of his hands and ran with it. That is just so messed up in all kinds of ways. Someone like that would not think twice about hurting someone if they got in the way.
Yea gettin theived on sucks no matter the price or value.
Is there any way to prevent it? I dont know, but at least this time you will be ready to run after the bastard.

dood you gotta to get out of that neighborhood yo... it is badd news just a warning. Next time you could have a serious problem . In that hood you get a "behind the counter" gun or a tazer LMAO... Foster is no joke be careful over there...we will keep our eyes peeled. Blast that bitch in the back of the knee caps and see how many stores he can run out of after that

The 8m combo also has a little torch on top. Its like the major minor. With a hose manifold that connects the 2 torches to one set of hoses.
Thats the first bad expierence weve had. For the most part it seems like an okay area. Sure it has its tweakers. But usually the only people that come in are glass artists. And its probaly good that we close at 5 before all the tweakers get out and start stealing.
We put the torches on short chains.
So now no one can grab and run.

shitty man...just shitty...sorry to hear it
You can find very cheap security cameras... Some are so cheap the parts inside were removed (lol the "fake camera) others work really well and use your computer as a recording devise.
Then there is the top of the line $5,000 jobs but thats not what you even need. You need something though. Even a fake camera that makes these idiots think they are being recorded... Hell even a sign on the front door saying they are being recorded. Beleive me I had a shop in the hood and that shit works.
PyroChixRock
02-18-2007, 02:31 PM
yeah put up a sign, even that will help. i'm glad to hear you've got short chains on them now. :D

have you amde all the glass shops around portland aware? put up signs in each one? I wouldn't think most pawn shops in portland would touch a glass torch because A) most of them probably wont know what it is or how to assign value to it, and B) cuz if its brand new they would have to assume its stolen.
I think your best bet woudl be to go around to all the glass shops in town and put up signs, make as many glassblowers aware of the stolen torch as possible.
But like Matt said, that neighborhood that you are in sucks, tons of tweakers.

Portland, I’m so sorry to hear about that… I hate thieves. Check out http://www.palmvid.com for an affordable security camera that works with a standard VCR.
A photo / video would definitely help the authorities find dirtbags like that… and would probably make it on the local news. It would also alert other business owners in your area to be on the lookout for (insert description here).
Please check your local laws and see what kind of self defense products you are allowed to have… mace, tazer, etc., just in case the next thief starts any shit.
